Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager have just been nominated for their fifth Daytime Emmy Award. And this time, they’re going for the gold.
Bush Hager gave Kotb a call during Monday’s broadcast of Today With Jenna & Friends, during which Kotb threw a little bit of shade at their fellow NBC daytime host Kelly Clarkson, who has also been nominated for a Daytime Emmy in the same category of Best Talk Series Host.
“Hoda, listen, we have never won one. But I think this could be our year. The last time’s the charm,” Bush Hager told her former co-host over a video call.
“Girl, let me tell you something. This is our last hurrah, this is happening,” Kotb said, before playfully adding, “Kelly Clarkson who?”
She and Bush Hager shared a laugh as Kotb began to walk back her joke against Clarkson. “No I’m kidding, I love Kelly so much, we love her. But it’s our time, we’re gonna go get her,” she said.
Bush Hager had joked that she and Kotb sometimes felt like “the Susan Lucci of Daytime Emmy hosts” as this is now the fifth time they have been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award.
“We’ve been nominated multiple times and yet we’ve never won, but to get to be nominated next to Hoda after the show is complete after we had our year together, our last year — which I know was really meaningful to me and I’m pretty sure it was meaningful for her,” Bush Hager explained.
Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Hudson are also nominated for Best Talk Series Host, alongside hosting duo Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa.
Ciara, who is guest hosting Jenna & Friends, gave the ladies some encouraging words.
“You have already won. What you guys have done for talk show TV is legendary. You are a legend Hoda, and you too, and you are continuously killing it,” she told Kotb and Bush Hager.
Bush Hager told her former co-host that she will see her at the Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony.
“Hopefully, we’ll be in our little sequined outfits whenever the Emmy comes up, Hoda,” she said.
