The entertainment world is grappling with the loss of a cherished Hollywood duo.
Rob Reiner and his spouse of 36 years, Michele Singer Reiner—who produced his latest sequel, Spinal Tap II: The End Continues—were discovered dead in what appears to be a homicide at their Los Angeles residence on December 14, as confirmed by a family insider to NBC News.
“We share the heartbreaking news of Michele and Rob Reiner’s tragic demise,” the family conveyed in a statement to Variety. “Our hearts are shattered by this sudden departure, and we kindly request privacy during this unimaginably challenging period.”
The announcement reverberated through the film industry, with Elijah Wood—who featured in Rob’s 1994 film North—expressing his shock on X (formerly Twitter), “Devastated to learn about Rob Reiner and his incredible wife Michelle [sic] leaving us.”
In addition, Kathy Bates reflected on Rob’s impact, stating he “changed the course of my life.”
“I loved Rob,” the Oscar winner, who worked with the filmmaker in 1990’s Misery, told NBC in a statement. “He was brilliant and kind, a man who made films of every genre to challenge himself as an artist.”
