Home Town Fans Rally Against Insurer in Heirloom Hotel Fire Dispute: A Call for Justice

Sign being placed on The Heirloom Hotel in Laurel, Mississippi

Reality TV News

Following a tragic fire at The Heirloom Hotel, HGTV viewers are expressing their frustration with Liberty Mutual on social media.

Fans of HGTV are voicing their dissatisfaction with a leading insurance provider in the wake of the season finale of Home Town: Inn This Together.

This Home Town spin-off showcased Ben and Erin Napier collaborating with their friends, Jim and Mallorie Rasberry, and Josh Nowell, to transform an old department store in downtown Laurel, Mississippi, into a boutique hotel, cooking school, and retail venue. Unfortunately, just as they were nearing completion, a fire ravaged the renovated building, leaving it in ruins.

Since that August 2025 blaze, the project has been in limbo. While the team has vowed to move forward and hopefully rebuild, those efforts are on hold while they wait for a resolution from the insurance company, Liberty Mutual.

“The fire shocked everyone. It has felt like a death of a loved one in the community. It has been nearly a year since the fire, and our friends are STILL waiting on @libertymutual to complete the claim,” Erin and Ben wrote on Instagram.

Viewers were quick to respond. Many called out and tagged the insurer in comments on the post. And other commented directly on Liberty’s own Instagram posts.

“OVER A YEAR AND NO MOVEMENT ON THE HEIRLOOM. Shameful at best,” one person wrote.

“Do the right thing @theheirloom.us!” another commented.

“I would never ever never ever be your customer #the heirloom,” vowed another commenter.

Liberty Mutual has not publicly commented on The Heirloom’s insurance claim. But complex fire damage claims can takes months to resolve, notes PALCO Claims, a public adjusting loss consultant based in Texas. A large scope of damage, engineering inspections, code upgrade income verification, and business income verification can all contribute to a frustratingly slow process for business owners.

Home Town: Inn This Together is streaming on HBO Max.
