Two years after announcing their separation, Hugh Jackman and his ex-wife, Deborra-Lee Furness, are making their split official. Furness recently filed for divorce and also issued a statement about the end of her marriage of nearly 30 years. Jackman reportedly feels blindsided by her remarks, but social media users don’t feel all that sorry for him. People have celebrated Furness for speaking out.

Hugh Jackman’s ex-wife released a statement about their marriage

Jackman and Furness announced their separation in 2023. Two years later, Furness filed for divorce. She addressed the end of her marriage in a statement. 

“My heart and compassion goes out to everyone who has traversed the traumatic journey of betrayal,” she told The Daily Mail. “It’s a profound wound that cuts deep, however I believe in a higher power and that God/the universe, whatever you relate to as your guidance, is always working FOR us.”

She said she believes she has grown from her heartbreak.

“This belief has helped me navigate the breakdown of an almost three-decade marriage,” she wrote. “I have gained much knowledge and wisdom through this experience. Even when we are presented with apparent adversity, it is leading us to our greatest good, our true purpose. It can hurt, but in the long run, returning to yourself and living within your own integrity, values and boundaries is liberation and freedom.”

Jackman reportedly feels blindsided and “extremely disappointed” by Furness’ statement. Per People, Jackman reportedly thought “there was an unwritten understanding that she would not trash him to the press.”

People have supported Hugh Jackman’s ex-wife

Many people have viewed Furness’ statement as proof that Jackman cheated on her. Rumors about this have swirled, particularly considering Jackman’s new relationship with Sutton Foster. They grew close while starring in The Music Man on Broadway, and both have recently ended their marriages.

As a result, many people have expressed their lack of sympathy at Jackman’s “disappointment” in Furness’ statement.

“He is really something else,” one person wrote, adding, “He very publicly humiliated her and she’s supposed to say nothing? He’s lucky that’s all she said!”

People felt shocked that Jackman reportedly expected Furness to keep quiet about the end of their marriage.

“I never thought I’d say this about Hugh Jackman, but here it is again, f*** him!” wrote one person. “He cheated! He doesn’t get to control the narrative. A**hole!”

Others pointed to the fact that the statement wasn’t very harsh. Furness wrote about her feelings of betrayal but did not go into specifics.
