Cartoon Network aired six seasons of The Amazing World of Gumball before putting the show on hiatus back in 2019. Don’t fret, though, as the show is now being revived at Hulu with new episodes that will pick up right where it ended, as series creator Ben Bocquelet said it should be considered the show’s seventh season. And, by the looks of Hulu’s new teaser, the show will be just as absurd as fans may remember.

The teaser trailer (which you can watch above) takes fans back to Elmore, where Gumball is literally brushing the cobwebs off after waking up late for school. “Oh, dude, we’re late for school!” Darwin tells Gumball.

How late are they? “About seven years,” Darwin reveals, referring to the show’s longtime hiatus. But there’s still time for more sleep. “Five more minutes then,” Gumball says as he goes back to bed.

Considering it’s actually been six years since the show left the air, it sounds like the revival series won’t be airing until late 2025 or 2026. But Hulu has not announced a premiere date.

The show will be taking big swings as it promises “wilder stories, bigger twists, and surreal humor,” warranting a whole new title for the revival: The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball.

“Welcome back to Elmore, where the laws of reality are a joke, and family life is anything but ordinary,” reads Hulu’s summary of the series. “Whether he’s battling an evil fast food empire, facing off against a sentient AI in love with his mom, or trying to stop Banana Joe from wearing pants— Gumball drags Darwin, Anais, and the rest of Elmore along for the ride.”

Bocquelet shared a statement about the new show with executive producers and directors Matt Layzell and Erik Fountain.

“What an amazing opportunity to play with these characters again!” they said. “Fans can look forward to plenty more antics and misadventures in Elmore because Gumball and Darwin haven’t grown up much since we last saw them…we haven’t either.”

The series will stream exclusively on Hulu and Disney+ and Hulu bundle.
