“I make ₦10 million plus per show,” Portable reacts to lookalike

Portable has told his fans to deal with a man he says is impersonating him on the live-show circuit, after videos of the lookalike performing the singer’s songs circulated online.

The artiste accused the lookalike of collecting fees for shows and urged followers to beat up anyone they see pretending to be him but asked that they not tag or drag him into the violence.

Portable’s message, posted on social media, was blunt and confrontational. He told supporters that if his lookalike is performing his songs or wearing his style, they should “beat him up yourselves,” adding that people will still complain and call for petitions even after violence.

He went on to stress the value of his own brand, claiming, “I collect 10 million plus for my shows,” and insisting no one should be pocketing money in his name.

How the controversy started

The row began after videos of a performer thought to resemble Portable surfaced online, with some shows and short performances credited to the lookalike.

Portable’s supporters argued that impostors were taking bookings and performing his catalogue without permission, a practice that can cost high-profile artistes significant earnings and damage their reputation.

In his statement Portable suggested the lookalike had already been paid as much as N250,000 for a show, a figure he rejected as far below what he claims to command.

He made clear he would still attend legitimate bookings, but warned others against impersonation and the financial losses that follow.

Portable framed his remarks around protecting his livelihood, saying, “If they call me for show I go go o,” and insisting that his followers should enforce his brand protection, rather than tagging him for action.

Public reaction

Public reaction was immediate and divided. Some fans defended Portable’s outrage, others urged caution.

larrycrypt01 wrote, “In a free world you can be anyone, it’s Portable of all people you wannabe,”

AbiolaBL said, “Until them bottle him head because them think say na him look alike.”

iwologbon, urged patience, posting, “We don’t know if Portable is the one talking here or his lookalike, so I sit and watch while I confirm.”

Portable’s fans meanwhile remain split between backing his hardline stance and urging a calmer, lawful approach.
