The First Lady of Imo State, Chioma Uzodimma, has ignited a lively discussion online by expressing her perspective on gender roles in culinary duties and underscoring the necessity of teaching life skills to all children, irrespective of gender.
Addressing the issue of household duties, Chioma Uzodimma emphasized that cooking shouldn’t be perceived as a woman’s exclusive task. She affirmed that there is no issue with husbands taking the initiative to cook for their families when required.
She said, “There is nothing wrong with a husband cooking for the family. Women should also teach both their sons and daughters how to cook. There is no rule that says only women should cook for the family.”
Her remarks challenge the traditional belief held in some homes that cooking is strictly a woman’s responsibility. The First Lady emphasized that both boys and girls should be equipped with basic life skills, including cooking, to help them become independent and responsible adults.
