Taylor Swift has many celebrity friends but actor-model Jaime King is no longer one of them. The “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer reportedly has “no contact” with King, who was once part of her famed girl squad. However, Swift still maintains ties to King’s youngest son as his godmother.
Taylor Swift and King are ‘not close anymore’
Things have changed “a lot” over the years where the “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” singer’s friendship with King is concerned. Gone are the days of seeing them together at Hollywood parties or gracing each other’s Instagram feeds. (Remember Swift’s annual Fourth of July party at her Rhode Island mansion? King was on the exclusive guest list.)
“Taylor and Jaime are not close anymore and don’t talk but there is still love,” a source close to King told The U.S. Sun. Swift, who is godmother to King’s 9-year-old son, Leo, still sends him birthday gifts.
She’d also “be there in a heartbeat” if her godson needed anything. “She has always taken her godmother role and duties very seriously,” the insider said of Swift, noting she’s “the most caring and thoughtful person Jaime could’ve asked to be there for Leo.”
“But their relationship is a lot different now than it was back when Jaime asked Taylor to be his godmother. There is no regular contact.”
King’s ex-husband now has full custody of their sons
The report on Swift and King’s friendship comes after a Los Angeles County judge awarded full sole physical custody of King’s sons, James and Leo, to the boys’ father, filmmaker Kyle Newman.
For King, the ruling comes with certain stipulations. Namely that her contact with her sons will be limited. The White Chicks star is allowed to spend four—supervised—hours a week with her sons. That includes two hours on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons.
FaceTime calls are also allowed on non-visitation days. However, they can’t be longer than 20 minutes. Furthermore, video calls are only permitted between 5 and 6:30 p.m., and are not allowed on Sundays or Mondays.
Court documents reportedly show King failed to complete a series of court-ordered programs from 2020 when she and Newman first filed for divorce. They included a drug and alcohol program with weekly testing, as well as a parenting program, and counseling, among others. Previously, King and her ex-husband had agreed to shared custody while finalizing their divorce.
Swift hasn’t ‘ditched’ Jaime King
Per the Daily Mail, the latest developments regarding King’s custody battle have devastated Swift. Contrary to some reports, an insider said, she hasn’t “ditched” her once-close pal or her godson.
The “Fortnight” singer, the source told the outlet, “will always honor and cherish her commitment to being a godmother to Jaime’s son Leo. And any suggestions that she has ditched Jaime or Leo is false.”
“Taylor has not been personally afflicted by the disease of addiction, luckily,” they continued. “But she has had many people who she cares about in her life who are and who have been.” Swift, they added, “has never walked away from anyone because of this.”
