Solange’s son, Julez Smith, is making a name for himself outside of that of his famous family. Recently, the 20-year-old sat down with Metal Magazine to talk about the runway, his personal style, and cooking. 

With Beyoncé as his aunt, Solange as his mother, and Tina Knowles as his grandmother, it’s no surprise that Julez has fashion in his DNA. He officially joined the fashion scene this past Spring/Summer 2024, debuting on the runway for Raul Lopez’s Luar. Reflecting on the experience, he described his first runway moment as an unforgettable adrenaline rush:

“The first time I stepped on a runway was an adrenaline rush. I remember the first step out onto the runway, I was nervous; then, my second step, I went into a zone. Everything was silent, and all I could focus on was my next step.”

After that first moment, Smith was on to walk the runway for Versace, Jil Sander, and Off White, starred in an editorial for Vogue, and covered At Large Magazine. As he stacks up serious resume accolades in the fashion industry, Smith tells Metal Magazine that his personal fashion style has become a reflection of his now budding career.

“Being a model has changed the way I dress as a whole. As a kid, I never used to care how I dressed. Now that I’m older I try to dress the best I can for any situation I’m in. Even when I go to the grocery store I put on an outfit.”

Smith admitted that he has other interests outside of modeling such as basketball and surprisingly enough, the desire to learn how to cook.

“I started to design last year and I’m really enjoying it. I still go play basketball any chance I can. The newest of my hobbies is trying to learn how to cook, that’s been taking up most of my time.”

Looking back on 2024, Julez revealed his proudest achievement: “I’m most proud of my magazine cover. Something that I can hold and have in my house forever is really huge for me. I’m most grateful, of course, to Raul and Luar as they gave me a chance to start my career and it turned out better than I could imagine.
