This October, Master Chief John-117 and his squad of Marines have made their way to Netflix.

Originally a hit video game series on Microsoft’s Xbox, Halo was adapted into a TV series and ran for two seasons on Paramount+ before the streaming service decided to cancel it in July 2024. According to Variety, after the show’s cancellation, its producers were reportedly on the hunt for a new platform to continue with a third season.

In a statement to THR, Halo Studios, the gaming company formerly known as 343 Industries, expressed gratitude to fans: “We truly appreciate the millions who embraced the Halo series, turning it into a worldwide phenomenon. We are dedicated to expanding the Halo universe through various avenues in the future and extend our thanks to Amblin and Paramount for their collaboration in bringing our expansive sci-fi narrative to a global audience.”

Could Netflix be the new home hinted at by the producers? Is a third season on the horizon? What lies ahead for Halo? Read on to uncover more.

Upon its Netflix release on October 1st, the military sci-fi drama quickly ascended to the streaming giant’s Top 10 list. However, Halo managed to hold this position for just a week. Considering its fleeting popularity and the hefty production costs—approximately $10 million per episode—it’s challenging to envision Netflix committing to the series. Additionally, fans of the original video game had mixed reactions, often criticizing the series for deviating too much from its source material.

While we don’t know anything for sure, our prediction is that we don’t think we will see a Season 3 of Halo any time soon. On an official note, there hasn’t been any word of another season being renewed from the Halo team, either.

Where Can I Watch Previous Seasons of Halo?

If you’re a huge Halo fan, or just getting on board with the series, you can still rewatch the previous 17 episodes, available to stream on Netflix and Paramount+. So, if you’re down to see 2 seasons of dystopian sci-fi warfare between Master Chief and his Spartans, against the cunning alien covenant, you know where to find them.

Netflix offers three subscription plans to fit your streaming needs. The plans start at $7.99/month for standard with ads and go up to $24.99/month for unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.

Paramount+ offers two subscription plans. The ad-supported Essential plan costs $7.99/month, while the ad-free Premium plan (which comes with Showtime and live CBS) costs $12.99/month. New subscribers can take advantage of a seven-day free trial.
