In the aftermath of the trial that saw hip-hop mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs convicted on two transportation-for-prostitution charges, rumors have swirled that he and Kanye “Ye” West plan to release new music. Industry insiders suggest a full song and possibly even a collaborative album may be on the way. And West has been one of the few high-profile peers to publicly support Combs during the trial. So, could Combs release an album while behind bars? Here’s what a reporter said about the possibility.

The jury found Sean “Diddy” Combs not guilty on two of the most severe charges in his federal trial. Now, the public awaits to hear his sentencing — and if he’s planning a music comeback. Combs and Kanye “Ye” West have a history of past collaborations. More recently, Combs’ son, Christian “King,” worked with West on a new EP. And a leaked snippet from March, reportedly recorded via a jailhouse call between Combs and West, fueled further speculation that Combs has something in the works.
New York City-based reporter, Lauren Conlin, told Nancy Grace that celebrities can do a shocking amount behind bars. With this in mind, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Combs and West release music.
“Kanye West has already been recording music with Christian Combs, as you know. … But, really, anything can be done through prison or through jail,” Conlin explained. “The fact that Suge Knight actually has a podcast that he records while in jail, and not only that, he’s a frequent guest on different news and media outlets. I mean, we really shouldn’t be surprised here that Kanye West and Diddy are planning to record music through the jailhouse phones.”
Conlin questioned how Combs and West’s music might sit with the public. “And, I mean, do they think that also gives them some kind of credibility here with people, the fact that Diddy is still working hard behind bars?” she continued. “He’s trying to ensure that he has a future in the music industry ahead of him? Will people be cool with that? … I guess we’ll wait and see.”
