Eva Marcille, known for her work as both a model and actress, takes on a gripping new role in a Lifetime movie that stretches the boundaries of belief. The romantic thriller, Pushed Off A Plane And Survived, presents a storyline so astonishing that viewers may question whether such events could truly occur.
The film’s narrative aligns with the signature style of many Lifetime dramas. In it, Jaynie, portrayed by Marcille, finds herself enamored with Cole, played by Tyler Lepley. He appears to be the ideal partner, saying all the right things that win Jaynie’s heart. “I like who I am when I’m with you,” Cole declares in the film’s trailer, adding, “I see the man I’ve always wanted to be.” His romantic proposal leads Jaynie to agree to marry him. However, the seemingly perfect relationship takes a turn when Cole suggests they venture into business together, raising the first of many red flags.
As Cole’s behavior grows increasingly suspicious, Jaynie’s sister becomes alarmed and voices her apprehension. Despite these warnings, Jaynie remains steadfast in her trust for Cole.
The movie’s shocking twist is not left to the imagination. According to Lifetime’s official synopsis, Jaynie faces a harrowing betrayal at the hands of Cole. During what was supposed to be an exhilarating skydiving trip, Jaynie is thrust into a life-and-death scenario, plummeting 4,000 feet from the sky. Yet, in an extraordinary turn of events, she defies the odds and emerges alive.
But Lifetime’s official synopsis for the movie doesn’t shy away from the movie’s shocking twist: “Jaynie miraculously cheats death after her husband Cole’s betrayal. A skydiving trip turns into a nightmare when she plummets 4,000 feet from the sky… only to survive against all odds.”
The trailer claims the story is “ripped from the headlines” and “inspired by real stories.” But is Pushed Off A Plane And Survived based on a real story? Here is everything we know about the movie.
Is Pushed Off A Plane And Survived based on a real story?
Pushed Off A Plane And Survived seems to be loosely based on the story of Victoria Cilliers, though there is no confirmation of what directly inspired the Lifetime movie.
Cilliers’ husband, Emile, attempted to murder her in 2018 by sabotaging her parachute before a skydiving trip. Cilliers, who was a captain in the army, was an experienced skydiver by the time Emile arranged for them to go skydiving in Wiltshire, England. But that day, her first parachute and her reserve parachute failed her, meaning she had to try her best to survive the 4,000 foot fall from the airplane. Reports say she was going 60 miles per hour when she hit the ground, leaving her with a broken pelvis, back and ribs, in addition to a “few minor internal injuries,” per The Independent.
Emile quickly became a suspect after police became involved. It was found that he had likely tried to kill her before. He received a minimum 18-year prison sentence for attempted murder. Cilliers’ survival story was also captured in the Channel 4 documentary, The Fall: Skydive Murder Plot.
Marcille praised Lifetime’s knack for adapting unbelievable true stories like this for the screen.
“Lifetime does a beautiful job at finding stories that are ripped from the headlines,” Marcille recently told Us. “And as an actor, art depicts life and so what yummier story to tell than a real life story. To be pushed from a plane, I mean, who could imagine? But there’s one thing that is a theme in all of this, is, what do you do for love?”
