Netflix seems to have hit the jackpot with its latest release, as audiences can’t get enough of the dynamic duo, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, showcasing their strong bond and undeniable charisma. The newly released action film, The Rip, which made its debut on Friday, is already generating buzz.

The movie, crafted by Joe Carnahan—famed for his action-packed films like The Grey and Boss Level—features Damon and Affleck as Miami detectives struggling with the tragic loss of their precinct’s captain. Their troubles take a turn when they stumble upon a fortune in cash within a deserted house, posing a temptation even for the most upright law enforcers.

Beyond its star-studded leads, The Rip boasts a talented ensemble cast, including Steven Yeun, Teyana Taylor, Sasha Calle, Catalina Sandino Moreno, Scott Adkins, Kyle Chandler, Néstor Carbonell, and Lina Esco. Fans of Damon and Affleck’s on-screen chemistry are sure to be left craving more.

But is there a chance for a sequel, The Rip 2? Here’s what we know about the potential continuation of this gripping saga.

Will there be a The Rip 2 movie?

Currently, there are no confirmed plans for a sequel to The Rip. The decision to move forward with The Rip 2 will likely hinge on the film’s performance on Netflix and whether Damon and Affleck are interested and available for a follow-up. The narrative concluded rather definitively, with no hints or post-credit scenes suggesting more to come, leaving little indication of any ongoing discussions about a sequel.

That said, other Netflix action movies that did well for the streamer—like The Old Guard, Red Notice, and The Gray Man—have either gotten sequels, or have sequels in development. So if The Rip is a big hit, its definitely possible that you’ll someday see The Rip 2 on Netflix.

What is The Rip 2 release date?

The is no The Rip 2 release date at this time, because we don’t even know if The Rip 2 movie is going to happen.

If it does happen, we expect to be waiting at least a year. Even if the sequel is green-lit by Netflix tomorrow, the first Rip movie took over a year-and-a-half, between the movie’s announcement and the movie’s release. Assuming the sequel would take the same amount of time, the earliest possible time you’d see The Rip 2 on Netflix would summer 2027.

But, again, we don’t yet know if The Rip 2 is happening at all. Stay tuned!
