A Nigerian man has expressed deep sadness after coming across photos of an elderly home, saying it made him reflect on how some children abandon their parents in old age.

In a Facebook post, the man identified as Irogbum Godspower Worlu lamented that many parents who sacrificed their entire lives raising their children are later left in the care of strangers at homes for the elderly.

Sharing his thoughts, he wrote: “Sad 😭😭😭😭😭. Life is indeed a mystery. I found myself reflecting deeply today after seeing pictures of a Home for the Elderly.

“So, person will carry a pregnancy for nine months, give birth, and then dedicate their entire life to training that child — from infancy through adulthood. The sleepless nights, the sacrifices, the prayers, the hard work, all poured into shaping a life.

“Yet, the same child, after growing and becoming successful, may turn around and take the parent to a home where strangers are left to look after them.

“🤔Is this truly the reward of parenthood? 🤷 Where did we lose our sense of family and responsibility?

“The thought alone brought tears to my eyes. Indeed, the times have changed. Still, I say: It is well.” 

The emotional post, which has since drawn reactions online, captured his tears and disappointment over how family values are changing.

He concluded with a reminder that old age is a stage everyone hopes to reach, stressing the need to treat parents with love and dignity as a duty and as a seed for the future.

He added, “Let us not forget that old age is a stage of life every one of us hopes to reach. Treating our parents with love and dignity is not just a moral duty — it is a seed we are sowing for ourselves.”
