Businessman Isaac Fayose has taken to social media to request that his older brother, former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, decline his recent role as Chairman of the Board of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA). Isaac argues that the position fails to reflect Ayo’s significant political stature.
Through a video on his Instagram account, Isaac congratulated Ayo Fayose on the appointment, but insisted that it does not align with the extensive influence and expertise Ayo has developed throughout his career.
Isaac further proposed that Ayo consider offering the opportunity to one of his children, suggesting it might be a better fit for the younger generation.
Questions the level of the appointment
The Presidency recently unveiled a list of appointments, naming Ayo Fayose and 25 others to various federal agencies and commissions.
This announcement, delivered by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, specifically named the former Ekiti governor as the newly appointed Chairman of the REA Board.
Reacting to the development, Isaac said he expected his brother to be considered for a higher national office, such as a ministerial or ambassadorial position.
“They said they gave my brother DG, not a minister, not ambassador.”
He also questioned why someone of his brother’s political profile would be appointed to head a parastatal instead of occupying what he described as a more prominent office.
Alleges appointment was politically motivated
Isaac went further to suggest that the timing of the appointment was connected to Peter Obi’s recent visit to his residence.
According to him, the government may have decided to appoint Ayo Fayose after the visit in order to strengthen its political relationship with the family.
“They gave my brother DG because Obi came on Saturday to visit me.”
The businessman had hosted Obi days earlier and publicly expressed confidence in the former presidential candidate’s chances in the 2027 election.
Recalls brother’s earlier position
Isaac also reminded viewers that Ayo Fayose had previously stated that he would return to private business after completing his tenure as governor rather than seek another public office.
He said his brother had been financially successful long before entering politics and therefore had no need to accept an appointment he considered less significant.
Describing the appointment as a “Greek gift,” Isaac questioned why it had not been offered much earlier.
Advises Ayo Fayose to reject the role
Despite congratulating his brother, Isaac urged him not to accept the appointment.
“Congrats on your appointment. You better give your son. Please, don’t use that kind of appointment. You are too big for that.”
He also described Ayo Fayose as a “kingmaker,” insisting that his political stature warranted a more influential national assignment.
Expresses confidence ahead of 2027
Beyond the appointment, Isaac reiterated his optimism about the opposition’s prospects in the 2027 general election.
He claimed the opposition already enjoyed widespread support across the country and dismissed concerns about possible electoral manipulation.
“I’m not scared. They are scared of what they don’t know.”
