The arrival of a new season of Shrinking brings with it a host of fresh cast members and intriguing characters. Just three episodes into Season 3, viewers have already been introduced to several exciting new faces.
The acclaimed grief comedy on Apple TV commenced its third season with an extended premiere, featuring the esteemed actor, author, and Parkinson’s advocate Michael J. Fox. He steps into the role of Gerry, a Parkinson’s patient who forms a friendship with Harrison Ford’s character, Paul. Episode 2 introduced us to Maya, portrayed by the talented actor and comedian Sherry Cola, who becomes Gaby’s new patient. By Episode 3, audiences are given a deeper look into Marisol, a character brought to life by Isabella Gomez.

Who Is Marisol On Shrinking?
As Decider noted in our full Shrinking Season 3 review, “When a special someone from Sean’s (Luke Tennie) past returns, his present-day priorities shift in ways he didn’t know were needed.” That special someone? Marisol, who we first learn about in Episode 2 when Sean reveals his ex is back in town, hides from her, and reveals that when he was in Afghanistan she dumped him via Dear John letter and he didn’t handle it well. “I was an asshole,” he admits. But in Episode 3, “D-Day,” Marisol makes it clear she has no hard feelings towards Sean.
When the two finally meet up Marisol tells Sean that she just moved back from Miami and is so excited to be with her family again. Her mood is light and it’s clear she wants to leave the past behind them, but Sean is determined to hold himself accountable for his behavior. Sean agrees to have her over for dinner, provided there’s a chaperone. When Alice (Lukita Maxwell) bows out, Summer (Rachel Stubington) not only steps in but pretends to be one of Sean’s army buddies. After a hilariously awkward dinner, Marisol kicks her out before desert and asks Sean why he’s acting so weird.
“I was so mean to you, Marisol. I said things to you that no one should say to another person, let alone someone they love,” Sean tells her. Marisol tells him to stop beating himself up for the past and asks if he wants to join her in the present. At long last, the two kiss, and to quote Summer: “HOT!” Gomez brings a contagious, uplifting energy and sense of humor to Shrinking, and Marisol not only helps Sean move forward and grow, but have some well-deserved FUN.
“It was great,” Tennie told Decider over Zoom. “We got a sense of what we were portraying pretty much immediately. We kind of chatted a bit about like ‘What exactly are we covering here? What exactly is the purpose of this relationship on the show?’ And then as soon as we both were like, ‘Oh, it’s this. Got it,’ we locked in.”
The Shrinking star went on to say that the chaperoned date with Summer was one of his favorite scenes to shoot all season. “God, it was so funny just being there, trying not to break. But then on the back end of that there was some real cool character moments,” Tennie explained. “I can’t wait for people to see this season, because we’re introducing some more characters from Sean’s world that feels like like they should have been there all along.”
