A young Nigerian woman stranded in Libya has sent a desperate cry for help, pleading with the Nigerian government and concerned authorities to rescue her and facilitate her return home.

Desperate plea for rescue

The woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, lamented the harsh conditions she has been forced to endure since arriving in Libya.

According to her, she has been warned not to disclose her attempt to leave, as doing so could result in her arrest by local authorities.

In her words, “Nigeria please help me. Please have mercy on me for God’s sake. I want to come back home, I’m fed up. Look at where I’m living. Don’t let police take me to prison. They said if I make someone know that I’m leaving here, police will arrest me. I want to come back to Nigeria. Don’t let me die in someone’s country.”

Her emotional outburst has since sparked outrage and renewed discussions about the dangers of irregular migration, popularly referred to as Japa.

The harsh reality of irregular migration

Libya has long been a notorious route for migrants seeking to cross into Europe in search of greener pastures.

However, countless stories of abuse, detention, and even death have emerged from those who risk the perilous journey.

Experts have repeatedly warned against the dangers of such routes, citing the lack of legal protection, human trafficking syndicates, and frequent violence that migrants face.

Unfortunately, many Nigerians continue to brave the risk, often believing that “anywhere is better than Nigeria.”

The latest case underscores the grim reality that irregular migration is not only dangerous but can also lead to life-threatening consequences for desperate individuals.

Social media reactions

The woman’s cry quickly went viral, prompting an outpouring of empathy and concern from Nigerians online.

EgoG_01 commented: “May helper come through o, 9ja sef no easy but we no get other country, na why we still dey here.”

Ruch_Trc20 wrote: “They advised her but as usual, they will say ‘my case is different’ and ‘anywhere is better than Nigeria.’”

mayor_xox reacted: “Chai! This one dey tear heart o. So many Nigerians dey suffer abroad. God abeg make she find safe way back home.”

The general consensus among netizens is a collective appeal to Nigerian authorities to act quickly and bring the stranded citizen home safely before her condition deteriorates further.
