Jay-Z proposes plan to open a casino in Times Square in letter addressing residents of NYC

Jay-Z is asking all New York City residents to support him in his efforts to open a casino in Times Square.

Through his entertainment agency Roc Nation, the 53-year-old rapper penned a letter blueprinting why he believes his company should be awarded the contract to open a casino in the city.

After three casino licenses were awarded to New York City last year, many high-profile bidders have been competing to secure the opportunity to open their own casino.

In the letter, the record producer insinuated that his company’s partnership with Caesars Palace would benefit the city residents.

The entrepreneur stated that their ‘innovative plan’ proposes to ‘draw additional tourists to our city’ and ‘enhance the lives of everyday New Yorkers.’

The New York native — who is bidding against Wynn Resorts and Mets owner Steve Cohen — detailed his plan to open a casino in Broadway’s famed theater district.

According to his letter, ‘Caesars Palace Times Square’ will not take away from theaters nearby but rather ‘protect the interests of the actors, producers, theatre staff, writers and patrons that represent the true heart and soul of Broadway’.

He also said his company’s bid will commit $115 million for ‘diverse theater programs’, including daycare for employees and their families.

Implying that their competitors are self-serving, he said in the letter: ‘The winning group must have a track record of turning words into deeds — of putting New York City and its residents first — people of all races, religions, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations and socio-economic statuses.’

‘The winning organization must have a history of campaigning for fair hiring, representation, and reform,’ the statement continued. 

‘Hate, as well as groups that have a history of oppressing the most vulnerable, have no place in New York,’ he added.

In the letter, Jay-Z also listed the reasons why his company deserves the casino license.

He proposed that the Times Square casino will ‘give back to all surrounding businesses’ and ‘benefit mass transit’.

The casino will also ‘invest money into sanitation and security from the bowtie all the way west into Hell’s Kitchen’ and ‘develop and deliver a much-needed transportation plan’.

By introducing a casino into the city, his company and Caesars Palace hope to ‘provide opportunity for all’.

Out of the three available casino licenses, many moguls are bidding to bring at least one into the heart of the city. 

According to TMZ, the state of New York is expected to make their decision on the winning bid by the end of the year.
