Jeannie Mai is opening up aboout the emotional toll of co-parenting and how she’s learning to navigate life when her daughter Coco is with her dad.
The TV personality took to Instagram on Thursday to reflect on the quiet moments without her little one.
Alongside photos of seaside sunsets and self-care moments, she began, “Everytime Coco is with her other home, I take this time for me. This is what co-parenting looks like — a heart split in two places, but still learning how to beat fully.”
She continued, “It’s harder than I ever imagined., loving her so much, but loving her from far away. There’s no guidebook for this part of motherhood.”
Mai, 45, shares Coco with ex-husband Jeezy. And while she’s often kept her personal struggles private, this time, she opened up about what it really feels like to share parenting time.
“I sit here, and I let the ache be what it is. Missing her is part of the job,” she wrote. “But so is filling myself back up so I have more love to give when she runs back to me.”
She added that solo time has helped her reconnect with herself beyond being “just mom.”
“I’m a woman who dreams, who laughs, who lives. And she deserves to see that woman fully alive,” she said.
Mai ended her post with a message to other moms going through the same thing: “Your happiness is not separate from theirs. When you shine, they feel it too.”
Jeannie Mai and Jeezy, who were married from 2021 to 2023, reached a joint custody agreement last year following a tense legal battle over their daughter.
These days, Jeezy says things are in a place of “peace.”
“I’m all about understanding. I’m all about what’s best for everybody, the greater, you know, the greater good,” he told the hosts of The Breakfast Club in June.
