Jenna Bush Hager may have landed herself in some hot water after she cursed during Thursday’s live Today broadcast.

The Today host was recounting her first time meeting Willie Geist and his wife Christina Geist when she boldly cursed on the air, claiming that she thought she was “allowed to say it one time.” Bush Hager recalled that Christina had made an off-color comment about their son, who was three years old at the time.

“I remember I wanted to meet [Christina] and she came because you told me that Christina goes, – I don’t know if you can say this – but he’s like, ‘God, George is acting like an asshole,’” Bush Hager shared.

Geist appeared shocked to hear her curse as he informed her, “You can’t say that, you can’t say it.”

Bush Hager then began to panic as she looked out at the Today crew on the set.

“All of them are like, ‘You’re not allowed to say that,’” she said. “Can you say it one time? No? Oh, sorry. Everybody’s looking at me like, ‘Why did you say that?’”

As Bush Hager continued to panic about cursing on the air, Geist took a moment to defend his wife against Bush Hager’s claims. “I’m looking at you like why did you say that,” he said. “I’d like to go on the record that my wife never said such a thing about my precious three-year-old son.”

Bush Hager then tried to blame the margaritas she and Geist shared at the top of the show in honor of National Tequila Day. “Was it the tequila? I thought you were allowed to say it one time! Is that just Schitt’s Creek?” she asked.

But that apparently made matters worse for them as Geist covered his face.

“That’s the title of a show spelled differently! And don’t keep going down the line of expletives,” he playfully warned. “This stops here. We are live on NBC this morning.”

Bush Hager admitted that she “worried” she was going to “get a call from the boss or something.” The Today host could not stop fretting about the mishap for the rest of the segment. “The shame is all-encompassing,” she admitted at one point.

But Geist did not stop teasing her about the mistake. Later in the segment, as Bush Hager attempted a viral internet challenge on the air, he even warned her to “watch your language.”

Bush Hager still appeared mortified by her mistake when she and Geist finally threw it to commercial. “Why did I do it? Why did I do it? Where did it come from?” she could be heard asking him as the show’s theme song played.

Today with Jenna & Friends airs on weekdays at 10/9c on NBC.
