The chances of Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson returning to the world of “The Hunger Games” are looking promising. The beloved actors are set to reprise their iconic roles as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark in the upcoming film “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping.” This prequel will focus on the character of Haymitch Abernathy, played by Woody Harrelson, as reported by several media outlets.
The duo is expected to make an appearance in a flash-forward scene towards the end of the movie. It will draw from the epilogue of Suzanne Collins’ novel, upon which the film is based. In this segment, Katniss and Peeta are seen sitting with Haymitch after the revolution in the Capitol, events that unfolded in “Mockingjay,” to learn about his heartrending past.
“I didn’t want to have anything to do with their memorial book after the war,” Haymitch states in the epilogue of “Sunrise on the Reaping.” “What use? What point? To relive all the loss.”
Nevertheless, Katniss and Peeta reach out to their former mentor, presenting him with a flock of geese to care for, a gesture inspired by his late love, Lenora Dove Baird, who had a fondness for the creatures.
Still, Katniss and Peeta embraced their former mentor and offered him a flock of geese to tend to after learning that his late love Lenora Dove Baird cared for the animal.
“Like the geese,” Haymitch remarked, “we really did mate for life.”
