Jennifer Lopez demands 'respect' during emotional Las Vegas moment

During a heartfelt moment on stage at her UP ALL NIGHT residency, Jennifer Lopez took the opportunity to delve into themes of love, heartbreak, and her current relationship expectations.

While performing her iconic song “If You Had My Love” at the Colosseum, Lopez paused to express how her understanding of the 1999 hit has transformed over time.

“1999. It doesn’t seem like that long ago, right? Well, to me it does,” she remarked to the audience. “When I first sang it, I was very young… and I sang it with a lot of hope.”

Lopez reflected on how the song has accompanied her through various life phases. “I’ve sung it when I was sad, and I’ve sung it when I was happy. But now, today, do you know how I sing it? I sing it with power. With power.”

She then elaborated on what that newfound power means to her in the context of her life now.

‘Because the truth is, if you wanted to have my love, you would have to earn it. You’d have to treat me right. You’d have to respect me. You’d have to accept me for all that I am.’

Addressing the crowd, she added: ‘You’d have to love me if you wanted my love. Am I right, ladies?’ prompting cheers from the audience.

But the singer acknowledged that love still comes with risk.

‘Love is a complicated thing… You can’t have love without heartbreak. You can’t. That’s what you sign up for,’ she said, before punctuating the moment with a Vegas flourish: ‘But there’s one thing that’s for sure. You can’t have Vegas without the King.’

Earlier in the week, Lopez also hit back at critics who have taken aim at her daring stage outfits as she kicked off the residency.

The 56-year-old looked sensational in a series of bold costumes and addressed comments telling her to ‘dress her age.’

‘One of the things is, when she takes pictures she smiles with her mouth open, why does she do that,’ Lopez said, laughing. ‘Why is she always dressed that way, why doesn’t she dress her age, I’m like huh, if you had this body you would be naked too!’

She showcased her figure in a pink lace corset bodysuit paired with fishnet tights and lace-up boots, later changing into a series of eye-catching looks throughout the night.

During a quieter moment between songs, Lopez thanked longtime fans who had attended her first Vegas residency, Jennifer Lopez: All I Have, which ran from 2016 to 2018.

‘It went by in a blink, didn’t it, for those of you who were there on opening night ten years ago?’ she said, snapping her fingers as fans cheered.

She then joked about her relationship history. ‘And, you know, at that time I’d only been married twice,’ she quipped, before correcting herself amid laughter: ‘That’s not true, it was only once… It felt like twice. I’m just kidding!’

Lopez added with a grin: ‘It’s over, and I just, boom, we’re fine. It’s all good.’

She went on to say the ‘good news’ is that she is ‘learning’ and ‘growing’ after heartbreaks, declaring, ‘And we’re in our happy era now!’

Lopez has been married four times, including her most recent marriage to Ben Affleck, whom she wed in 2022 before filing for divorce in August 2024.

Their marriage was dissolved in January 2025, though the former couple have remained on friendly terms and supported each other’s projects.

The residency featured multiple costume changes, including a custom Victoria’s Secret look with a black lace sheer catsuit, wings and dramatic collar, along with a green cut-out bodysuit, a tuxedo-inspired ensemble and a plunging purple sequin gown with long gloves and a fur wrap.

This marks Lopez’s second Las Vegas residency following her 2018, 120-show All I Have run, which grossed $100 million.

She announced Up All Night Live in May 2025 while hosting the American Music Awards.

On December 30, Lopez delivered a 120-minute pop, R&B and Latin spectacle to a sold-out crowd of more than 4,000 fans, opening with a Broadway-inspired sequence and performing hits including Waiting for Tonight, Jenny From the Block, Play, On the Floor, Don’t Rain on My Parade and Let’s Get Loud.
