9-1-1, which premiered in 2018 and stars Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Jennifer Love Hewitt, is in the middle of its second season on ABC. In 2023, the network stepped in to rescue the series when Fox canceled the show after six seasons.
Hewitt quickly took to social media to celebrate the renewal news.
“Season 9 of 9-1-1. Woo-hoo!” she said in a video shared on her Instagram Story. “Feeling so excited, so grateful, and just love my job so deeply. It’s really, really cool and it never isn’t super exciting to find out that we get to continue and see what all of our amazing characters are going to continue to do.”
The Can’t Hardly Wait actor also thanked the show’s loyal fans for their support. “None of that would be possible without you guys,” she said. “Without you watching, without you supporting … Thank you so much for supporting us.”
Hewitt plays dispatcher Maddie Han on 9-1-1. So far, season 8 has been a difficult one for the character. After handling multiple emotionally wrenching calls, Maddie was kidnapped by a serial killer, putting both her life and that of her unborn child at risk. While she survived that ordeal, she still has to deal with the resulting trauma from the incident.
In addition to another season of 9-1-1, fans can look forward to a new spinoff, 9-1-1: Nashville, which is set to premiere during the 2025-26 broadcast season. It will star Chris O’Donnell as fire captain Don Sharpe.
9-1-1 airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Episodes stream the next day on Hulu.
