Jimmy Kimmel Live will be back on the air starting Tuesday, Sept. 23, almost one week after ABC suspended the late night talk show indefinitely.

The show was pulled from the air Wednesday, Sept. 17, after Jimmy Kimmel commented on the recent death of Charlie Kirk.

Disney announced the news with a statement Monday that maintained Kimmel’s comments were “ill-timed” and “insensitive.”

“Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive,” the statement reads. “We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

The news comes after 400 celebrities signed an open letter by the American Civil Liberties Union condemning the show’s suspension, marking the latest in a wave of swift backlash Disney has been facing since Wednesday.

Live was preempted just ahead of Wednesday’s broadcast after Kimmel said during Monday’s broadcast, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”

FCC head Brendan Carr seemingly warned the network over Kimmel’s comments, as he called for ABC to “find ways to change conduct, to take action, frankly, on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead,” which some speculated could mean it could affect ABC’s licenses.

Several spoke out in support of Kimmel, including Bill Maher, Stephen Colbert, Steve Martin and more. But President Donald Trump gloated over the news on social media.

“Great News for America: The ratings challenged Jimmy Kimmel Show is CANCELLED,” President Trump wrote. “Congratulations to ABC for finally having the courage to do what had to be done. Kimmel has ZERO talent, and worse ratings than even Colbert, if that’s possible. That leaves Jimmy and Seth, two total losers, on Fake News NBC. Their ratings are also horrible. Do it NBC!!! President DJT”

Now, Kimmel will be back with new episodes beginning Tuesday, Sept. 23.

Jimmy Kimmel Live! airs on weeknights at 11:35/10:35c on ABC.
