Joy Behar has a surprising connection to pop star Sabrina Carpenter.

On this morning’s episode of The View, Behar revealed that she married her first husband in the same church that got in trouble for allowing Carpenter to film a racy music video for her song “Feather” inside its doors.

“This girl got in trouble years ago for doing a video in the church that I got married in the first time,” Behar said, referring to the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Brooklyn.

“Father Jamie, who is still there I think, he got into trouble,” Behar continued. “She didn’t get in trouble, the priest did for letting her do it. That is the church I got married in the first time.”

In the music video, which was released in 2023, Carpenter pulls up in front of the church in a pink hearse. After leading men to their gruesome deaths, she dances in a mini dress and a black veil in front of the church’s altar.

CBS News reported in November 2024 that Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello, the pastor who allowed Carpenter to film the music video inside of the church, was stripped of his duties. Following backlash to the video, Gigantiello reportedly said it was a “lapse in judgment” to allow Carpenter to film in the church, though maintained that he wasn’t present for the shoot and didn’t know how provocative it would be. A deeper investigation into the pastor found instances of alleged mismanagement, specifically with the church credit card.

Behar’s revelation on The View came amid a discussion about Carpenter’s controversial cover art for her upcoming album Man’s Best Friend, where she’s seen on all fours while a man tugs on her blonde hair. Alyssa Farah Griffin swiftly fired back at critics of the cover, who believe the photograph is “sending us back five decades.”

“Oh, boohoo! It sounds like the ‘90s to complain about an album cover,” Griffin said. “They’re always provocative. You want to grab peoples’ eyes.”

“I’m a big Sabrina Carpenter fan. If you listen to her music, she’s a feminist,” she added. “It’s all about women empowerment. She mocks men who wronged her, not men across the board. Her newest single ‘Manchild’ is literally just about men who are useless that refuse to grow up.”

The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
