Joy Behar shocked her co-hosts on The View during a divided debate about cheating and monogamy Tuesday.
While many of her co-hosts agreed they did not agree with cheating and would struggle to remain friends with someone who was involved in an affair, Behar, who has been married twice and has been in a relationship since 2011, derailed the conversation by calling monogamy “boring.”
Sunny Hostin had just confessed to personally having “a really hard time” when a good friend cheated on her husband, when Behar chimed into the conversation to add, “You know, let’s face it. Monogamy is monotonous. It is.”
Behar’s co-hosts and their audience burst into laughter as she continued. “I mean, only 3% of the mammal species is monogamous!”
Alyssa Farah Griffin then pointed out that “penguins mate for life,” which neither Behar nor Whoopi Goldberg truly believed.
“That’s what they say, but how do they know?” Goldberg fired back. “They don’t know!”
Behar continued, “It’s a human construct, really when you think about it, to protect the nuclear family, to make sure the children have the two parents to raise them and all this stuff.”
“It’s good for the kids but its boring,” she said, adding it’s essentially the “same old thing every day.”
Sara Haines, on the other hand, noted that monogamy is a choice.
“I don’t think it’s natural but you choose it though,” she said. “You don’t have to say it’s natural to commit to it.”
Goldberg hinted that she has had a bit of experience on both sides of this debate. “Having trick or treated at both of those houses I have to say you have to take it on a case by case basis,” she said as she prepared to throw it to commercial.
“It’s not of our business what other people are doing. Mind your own business!” declared Behar, to which Goldberg said, “I tell people this all the time!”
The View airs on weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
