Julie Andrews confesses to swearing during 'Mary Poppins' stunt gone wrong: “I let fly a stream of colourful expletives”

Julie Andrews may be best known for playing the prim and proper magical nanny in Mary Poppins, but even the most beloved characters have their off-camera moments — and this one might leave your childhood in shock.

Now 87, the Oscar-winning legend is opening up about a moment on the 1964 Disney set when she completely lost her composure during a particularly rough stunt sequence.

“I landed hard and was quite shaken,” Andrews revealed to Closer magazine in a recent interview, per Daily Express US. “I have to admit, I let fly a stream of colourful expletives.”

That’s right — the actress behind the most poised British nanny in cinematic history apparently had a profanity-laced meltdown mid-production.

And yet, despite the slip, Andrews remained Walt Disney’s top pick. In fact, he believed in her so much that he delayed the entire shoot to accommodate her pregnancy.

“I said, ‘Oh, Mr. Disney, I’d love to come. But I’m pregnant,’” she recalled. “He spoiled me.”

Andrews’ then-husband Tony Walton also landed a gig as the film’s designer, and the couple went on to welcome daughter Emma Walton Hamilton before ultimately divorcing in 1968.

She later married director Blake Edwards in 1969, and they remained together until his death in 2010. The couple adopted two daughters, Amy and Joanna Edwards.

But Mary Poppins wasn’t the only iconic production that tested Andrews. Filming The Sound of Music brought its own share of emotional challenges, especially as her personal life hit a rocky patch.

“I was quite lonely. Tony was working, and our marriage was a little rocky,” Andrews admitted, referencing her on-set dynamic with co-star Christopher Plummer.

Still, she credits her resilience to some no-nonsense advice from her mother. “Thankfully, I was willing to pay my dues and to learn,” she shared. “When we were touring, my mum would drill into me: ‘Don’t you dare complain about anything… Get on with it and you’ll be respected so much more.’”
