Kate Middleton has plenty of showstopping jewelry. Her iconic engagement ring once worn by Princess Diana is just one of them. But not all of the Princess of Wales’s jewelry breaks the bank. Over the weekend the future queen stepped out wearing earrings that cost less than $100. And—by some (royal) miracle, they are still in stock. (Virtually) Run, don’t walk, before the “Kate Effect” goes into overdrive. 

Kate Middleton wore $93 hoop earrings to a rugby game with Prince William 

On March 15, 2025, Kate joined Prince William, 42, in Cardiff, Wales, to watch England and Wales compete in the Six Nations rugby game. Kate, cheering for England, made her support clear with her blue and white outfit. (The Prince of Wales, 42, was rooting for Wales.) It included the Rosalia hoop earrings in Lapis from the London-based brand Shyla, per What Kate Wore. 

The earrings, which cost $93, are currently available on the brand’s website. Featuring eight stones and rope detail, they’re described as the “ultimate everyday hoops.” Hypoallergenic, the earrings are made of gold-plated sterling silver. The earrings come in three different colors. 

It comes on the heels of drama involving Kate’s clothing. A Sunday Times report quoted a royal insider who said the future queen’s outfit details wouldn’t be revealed. That way, the “focus” would be on her work. Backlash ensued and Kensington Palace issued a clarification, a rare move for “the Firm.” In it, they revealed a staffer had been behind the quote, noting there’d be no change to how they share Kate’s fashion details. 

Kate has worn the same earrings in another color multiple times before 

The earrings aren’t exactly new to Kate. Nor is accessorizing designer looks with affordable jewelry. The royal mother of three has worn the same pair of earrings, except in the pearl colorway, on three occasions. All of which were in the fall of 2023. 

In September 2023 when Kate visited textile manufacturers in Leeds and Lancaster, England, she accessorized her green Burberry suit—remember Kate’s pantsuit era?—with the pearl earrings. (The earrings coordinated with Kate’s white button-down shirt under her blazer.) 

Just days later, on Oct. 3, 2023, Kate wore the earrings to mark the 75th anniversary of Windrush. Once again she accessorized a designer pantsuit and white shirt combo with the earrings, mixing high and low. A day later, on Oct. 4, 2023, Kate wore the earrings again. This time with gray and white separates to visit a community center. 

She’s not the only British royal who likes affordable jewelry

Another British royal who likes affordable jewelry besides Kate is her sister-in-law, Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex, also 43, has added several more affordable pieces to her jewelry collection since she married Prince Harry in 2018. 

Most recently, at the Invictus Games in February 2025, Meghan debuted an addition to her signature bracelet stack: a gold bangle from Valencia Key featuring the word “Joy.” The bracelet, which retails for $125, is a steal compared to Meghan’s oft-worn Cartier “Love” bracelet that comes with a four-figure price tag. 

Fans of royal fashion can expect to see more new additions from Kate—and Meghan—as the year continues. Kate is making more and more public appearances as she continues to ramp up her royal duties after spending 2024 largely out of the spotlight.
