Katy Perry Reveals Emotional Struggles After Heartbreaking Split: Inside Her Toughest Year Yet

Katy Perry recently shared insights into her mental health struggles during what she described as the ‘worst year of her life,’ reflecting on her breakup with Orlando Bloom in a candid interview.

The 41-year-old singer, known for hits like “Roar,” ended her nine-year relationship with Bloom in June 2025. The couple, who got engaged in 2019, welcomed their daughter Daisy in August 2020.

Following their separation, Katy has found new happiness with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She affectionately referred to him as a ‘blessing from God’ as she expressed her feelings for him.

In an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, Katy admitted, “Last year was incredibly tough. It was simultaneously the worst and the best year because every situation has two sides, and I chose to see it as the best.”

“I created space in my life,” she added. “And then, unexpectedly, this enormous blessing appeared.”

Hinting at her mental health struggles, she continued: ‘And everything is really changed and real, grounded and settled, and I’m just so glad I decided to stick around for another year because you know if you just keep on living, life can get better.

‘It’s wild to look at where I was one year ago exactly. I remember where I was one year ago exactly this year.

‘Last year, June I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately.

‘And I was just like, “holy s**t, this is really intense. Is a person really supposed to feel all this and, or absorb all this?”

‘And then my blessing came and it was wonderful. It was like God didn’t take me this far to desert me.’

Katy is now preparing to release her new single Watch It Burn on June 25.

I basically have to put it out in order to clear the path to whatever comes next. So it’s something I wrote last March and I wrote it with Justin Tranter and a couple other people.

‘And I wrote two songs, Band-Aids and Watch It Burn and I was terrified of putting Watch It Burn out.

‘They’re so honest and they really tell a lot about my story. I was like: “I’m never putting this out. I’m never putting this out. I’m never putting this out.” And cut to now, like a long while away – I’m putting it out.’

Representatives for Katy and Orlando previously told DailyMail.com at the time that, ‘Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.

‘They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.’

A few months later, Bloom broke his silence on the split during an interview on the Today show in September.

‘I’m great, man. I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter,’ he said while also talking about his film titled The Cut.

‘You know, when you leave everything on the field, like I did in this movie, I feel grateful for all of it. And we’re great. We’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.’

Katy and Justin made their red carpet debut together on June 8 at the New York City premiere of the Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour concert film.

And unafraid to flaunt their romance in public, the couple were seen kissing during a picnic date in Santa Barbara, California, last weekend.

Gushing over their romance and the stability Trudeau has brought to her life, she told People: ‘I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that.

‘Because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, you know, touch the veil, cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.’

The star couldn’t be happier with the way her life is now.

‘Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve, and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world.

‘I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,’ she added.
