Here’s what Kayla Nicole said she did when she was getting so much hate from several Swifties after her ex started dating Taylor Swift.
Before Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift began their love story, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end was in a relationship with social media influencer Kayla Nicole.
She dated the NFL player on and off for five years. Then, following their breakup, she watched, along with the rest of the world, as Kelce and Swift became the biggest “it couple” and all anyone wanted to talk about.
Moving on was difficult for Nicole for a few reasons. One was that she couldn’t escape hearing about the billionaire pop star and her ex-boyfriend since everything they did was constantly in the news. And another is that some of Swift’s fans decided to troll and attack her.
Here’s what Nicole has said about being a target and dealing with that, plus how things have gotten better for her now.
Some of the comments under Nicole’s posts included things like “No one takes you seriously,” “Travis dodged a bullet,” and “Thirsty for views.”
In 2024, Nicole was a guest on Angel Reese’s podcast Unapologetically Angel and explained how being cyberbullied continuously by some of Swift’s fans has made her feel.
“I would be lying if I said that that level of hate and online chaos didn’t impact me,” Nicole admitted. “You could go to my most recent posts and people would be debating why I am worthless. I think that there’s something about that level of fame that attracts crazy people. It’s unfortunate because I’ve never done anything to warrant that kind of backlash.”
Nicole shared a little more about that when she competed on the reality series Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test saying: “I just get a lot of like s*** because [Kelce] is dating such a mega superstar … Going through a public breakup, just to be frank, it’s been overwhelming.”
Things have gotten better for Nicole and she found a way to deal with the hate
During an appearance on the Straight to Cam podcast with Cameron Brink and Sydel Curry-Lee, Nicole talked about what she eventually started doing to block out some of the backlash she was receiving and what she thinks of those who are using social media just for hate.
“When it becomes too much, I have to log out because it’s not the real world. Like there’s life happening beyond the internet,” Nicole told the hosts. “It becomes like a vacuum, too. It’s becomes so overwhelming you think that is like all that exsist.”
She added, “I also think people need to start doing psych evaluations before you can create a new Instagram account with a fake profile and a weird picture.”
The tide seems to be turning for Nicole these days though. She’s now receiving positive comments on her accounts again instead of Swifties telling her how awful she is.
Nicole also ended up winning the Special Forces competition and gained a fanbase that appreciated how she competed and handled herself in high-pressure sistuations calling her “amazing” and a “role model.”
