Taylor Swift released her highly anticipated album Life of a Showgirl on Oct. 3. Swifties everywhere began dissecting the pop star’s lyrics and were quick to attribute what she said in one song to her fiancé‘s ex-girlfriend, Kayla Nicole.
The track “Opalite” is about Swift and Travis Kelce‘s past relationships before they found each other. The lines that have many convinced she’s singing about Kelce and Nicole’s previous relationship say: “You couldn’t understand it, why you felt alone / You were in it for real, she was in her phone and you were just a pose. And don’t we try to love love? We give it all we got / You finally left the table, and what a simple thought / You’re starving ’til you’re not.”
Speculation that Swift was referencing Nicole kicked into overdrive after a video resurfaced online of Kelce arguing with his former partner and telling her to “get off” her phone.
Nicole did not stay quiet after the apparent diss. Here’s what she had to say.
Nicole seemingly responded to Swift’s diss
Apparently, word got back to Nicole pretty quickly about Swift’s lyrics because she posted what many deemed a response the same day.
Nicole took to her Instagram Stories and posted a clip from an episode of America’s Next Top Model that showed former contestant Eva Marcille asking Tyra Banks, “How do you compare yourself to the other girls out there?” Banks replied: “I don’t compare myself to other girls … I’m no comparison to anyone else.”
Nicole and Kelce dated on and off for five years. She just so happened to be his last public relationship before Swift.
It couldn’t have been easy for the model to witness her ex moving on with one of the most famous women on the planet. And if watching their love story blossom in real time wasn’t difficult enough, Nicole also had to deal with a ton of hate from Swifties ever since the tight end and “Bad Blood” artist got together.
Nicole admits she ‘obsesses’ over the online hate she hasn’t been able to escape
After sharing her “no comparison” post, Nicole revealed on her podcast that she actually “obsesses” over some of the online hate she gets.
During an episode of her The Pre-Game podcast on Oct. 4, she said, “As someone who obsesses over the fact that I, on a daily basis, am terrified of my comments, terrified of my DMs. I don’t want to be triggered. I don’t want to care, I don’t want to look.”
Nicole added that this year “hasn’t been the easiest” and “I’m like God, if anybody f****** Googles me, they’re gonna think I’m a crazy person right now.”
She does have a point, as anyone who takes a look at her social media posts can see that no matter what she puts out and what it’s about, commenters make it all about her ex and Swift.
Luckily for Nicole though, she insisted that she has “some tough, thick skin.”
