A telling video has resurfaced of an emotional Keith Urban in the wake of his split with wife Nicole Kidman.

The Oscar winner, 58, and musician’s separation was confirmed by Daily Mail on Monday, with the couple ending their nearly two decades of marriage.

Back in June last year, Keith, 57, stunned the A-list crowd while honouring Nicole at the AFI Life Achievement Award Gala Tribute when he candidly revealed that his addictions almost blew up his marriage.

‘We got married in 2006, and barely four months into our marriage, the addictions that I had done really nothing about blew our marriage to smithereens,’ he began.

Keith admitted he was battling addiction at the time he met Nicole.

With her support, he eventually managed to pull through.

‘Four months into a marriage, and I’m in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.’

‘Nic pushed through every negative voice – I’m sure even some of her own – and she chose love.

‘And here we are tonight 18 years later. Her capacity to love is like no one I’ve ever met.’

Upon listening to her husband’s emotional speech, Nicole was visibly emotional in the audience, wiping away a tear as she listened to his heartfelt words.

Keith has previously battled drug and alcohol addiction, a struggle made public over the years, which saw Nicole stage an intervention to help Keith get sober.

The father-of-two, who has said in the past that he grew up watching his father’s heavy drinking, admitted to Rolling Stone in 2021 that it took him ‘a long time to get sober’ because he didn’t ‘recognise’ his alcoholism.

‘I didn’t drink like my dad, so I compared everything to him,’ he said.

‘But I was able to finally make the right choice in my life, that I wish my dad [Robert Urban, who died in 2015] would have made.’

Despite his history with substance abuse, Keith recently compared listening to Ariana Grande’s catchy new single, We Can’t Be Friends, to ‘audible heroin’.

The joke reportedly upset Nicole as it ‘brought back a very dark time for them when they almost split.’

‘Nicole would never ask him to take down a post but she was disappointed,’ an insider told Woman’s Day.

Keith told Rolling Stone back in 2016 that he would have understood if Nicole chose to leave him after his 2006 rehab stint as the couple had only married that year.

‘I was very, very blessed to have Nic call an intervention on me,’ Keith said, adding that his reckless behaviour ’caused the implosion of my fresh marriage’.

He also reflected on the intervention Nicole had staged for him with Oprah Winfrey, admitting to the famed talk show host that he ‘went off the rails’ and ‘needed help and a new direction’ in his life.

‘The love in that room in that moment was just right,’ Keith told Oprah. ‘To see love in action in that way… I’d never experienced anything like that before.’

When discussing Nicole’s decision to stay with him during his third stint in rehab in eight years, Urban said that, at that point, ‘she really should’ve just walked.’

He added: 'Four months into a marriage, and I'm in rehab for three months with no idea what was going to happen to us.' Keith is pictured in 2001 ¿ five years before entering rehab

‘I’m just so glad she didn’t, and she made a decision to turn around and initiate ultimately this intervention,’ he said.

At the time, he released a statement, which read: ‘I deeply regret the hurt this has caused Nicole and the ones who love and support me. One can never let one’s guard down on recovery, and I’m afraid that I have.’

Nicole told Vanity Fair in 2007, during that period, that they ‘were in a very, very, very bad, painful place’ and ‘managed to step through it [together].’

Nicole and Keith’s separation was confirmed by Daily Mail on Monday, with the couple ending their 19-year marriage and life together with two children.

They’ve been kept apart of late amid their hectic filming and touring schedules – with an insider saying the pair could still reconcile.

The source said: ‘Keith never sees Nicole, either she is filming or he is on tour. There was a lot of love between the two and they might not divorce, but there is a world that they both live where neither of them are in it.

‘Keith and Nicole have been together for decades and there is a world which they can reconcile, but the way their pairing is now, it is not a couple.’

The former couple share daughters Sunday Rose, 17, and Faith Margaret, 14.
