Kelly Ripa reveals her longtime husband Mark Consuelos was 'insanely jealous'

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are opening up on their nearly 27-year marriage in their new podcast Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa.

The podcast debuts on Wednesday, with E! debuting a preview where Ripa, 52, told Consuelos, 51, that her husband was ‘insanely jealous’ at the start of their message.

The couple – who hit the Oscars red carpet earlier this month – first met in 1995 when Consuelos joined the cast of All My Children, and they eloped in May 1996.

‘My biggest complaint about you over the course of our marriage, and this is not recent because it definitely changed and I don’t know if you changed or I changed or if it was some combination of change, but you used to be insanely jealous and that was a hard pill to swallow,’ Ripa began.

‘It’s very hard being married to somebody who is jealous and you had a jealousy of things that were not… you had a perception of a scenario,’ she said, offering the ‘best example’ from very early in their marriage.

‘It was our first week of marriage, because we didn’t take our honeymoon until later. You were working and I went to visit you in Boston,” Ripa recalls.

‘We went to this Italian restaurant and the waiter was like a very cute old man, he’s definitely in his 70s, if not 80s. He leaned down and he said, ‘And for the principessa?'”

Consuelos admitted he, ‘got upset” in the moment, as Ripa added, ‘I thought it was so cute that this little old man called me a princess, and I looked at him and I gave him my order in a very smiley way.

‘And he walked away and you picked a horrible fight,’ she said, as Conseuelos admitted he remembered that.

‘I remember that. Look at age 25, I was pretty insane. But that jealousy thing definitely followed me for a while, but I’m not jealous anymore,’ he added.

Ripa tells her husband she’s “so grateful that you’re not,’ adding she doesn’t, ‘pray for things or people… I would just be like, “Please let him lose this personality flaw.’

Consuelos admitted it wasn’t even a ‘personality flow,’ it was a, ‘character flaw.’

‘It’s ugly. As ugly as it feels to the person who has to be on the receiving end of it, it’s such an ugly feeling inside,’ he admitted.

Honeymoon: ‘It was our first week of marriage, because we didn’t take our honeymoon until later. You were working and I went to visit you in Boston,” Ripa recalls

Mark remembers: ‘I remember that. Look at age 25, I was pretty insane. But that jealousy thing definitely followed me for a while, but I’m not jealous anymore,’ he added

‘If this is any consolation, you know you’re being crazy. The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it’s ugly, but they can’t help it,’ the actor added.

Ripa asked, ‘What changed?’ that helped him let go of his jealousy, Consuelos admitted he couldn’t pinpoint it.

‘I don’t know. I think I wanted to do some work on myself and that was one of the major things that I needed to work on because it was getting in the way,’ Consuelos said.

The new podcast, produced by SiriusXM and Milojo Productions, premieres Wednesday, March 22 on Stitcher, the SXM App or wherever podcasts are available.

The news comes on the heels that Ripa’s longtime Live With Kelly & Ryan co-host Ryan Seacrest is leaving the show.

Her own husband Consuelos will be replacing him, with their new episodes together starting on April 17.

‘I’m really excited. It’s an honor. It’s such an iconic show. That seat next to my wife is such a cherished seat. I consider her the best in the business, so I’m really excited,’ Consuelos said.

Consolation: ‘If this is any consolation, you know you’re being crazy. The jealous person knows that this is wrong and it’s ugly, but they can’t help it,’ the actor added
