Kris Jenner is going all out for the seventh season of The Kardashians. In a surprising move, she managed to bring her son, Rob Kardashian, back into the spotlight with his first reality TV appearance in almost ten years during the season’s premiere. Additionally, she extended an invitation to her former spouse, Caitlyn Jenner, for a family dinner, despite their strained relationship.
In the second episode of The Kardashians Season 7, titled “She Was Such a Hater,” Kris invites Caitlyn to join the family for a special occasion. The gathering is meant to bid farewell to their El Dorado Meadow residence, a significant place as it served as the backdrop for nearly all 20 seasons of Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Before the family dinner, Kris shares with the cameras, “Just an hour ago, I called Caitlyn and asked what she was up to. Unsurprisingly, she replied, ‘I’m having dinner and watching Fox News.’ I responded, ‘Of course you are. Would you like to come and say goodbye to El Dorado Meadow with us and spend time with your kids?’ She immediately said, ‘I’m on my way.’
The reunion is unexpected for their children, as Kris and Caitlyn—who are parents to Kendall Jenner, 29, and Kylie Jenner, 28—have kept a distant relationship since their divorce in 2015. Caitlyn’s appearance not only marks her return to the family’s reality show after the end of Keeping Up with the Kardashians in 2021, but it also surprises everyone at the dinner.
“I wasn’t anticipating my dad being here given my mom’s current relationship with her. It’s not bad, just distant,” Kendall remarks, recalling the rift caused by Caitlyn’s comments about Kris in a Vanity Fair article following her transition ten years ago. “Seeing my mom take the initiative to invite my dad without Kylie and me having to request it really makes me happy. It shows that she thought it was a good idea regardless of their past.”
While speaking in her confessional, Kendall shares more insight into her relationship with Caitlyn, who, in the scene prior, was telling the family that she wouldn’t evacuate her Malibu home even if wildfires came to the “bottom of the hill.” Kendall also seems to allude to the Olympian’s more recent controversies, which include her public endorsement of President Donald Trump and bans on trans women competing on women’s sports teams.
“I have to compartmentalize my relationship with my dad in a way, because I love her. She’s my dad. We have a good relationship,” Kendall says. “But sometimes I get frustrated with her with certain things because we just have completely different views on things.”
“But other than that, I always want to include her,” Kendall continues. “I know she doesn’t have a lot outside of her family, and I think that she gets lonely. You don’t ever want anyone to be sad, especially your dad and someone you love and care about. At the end of the day, it’s nice having her around.”
Khloé Kardashian, for her part, says it’s “big of” her mom to put the past on pause and invite Caitlyn to celebrate the memories made in their longtime home, while Kim Kardashian reveals that she talks to Caitlyn “all the time,” and even wrote her a nice birthday card, crediting her for making the SKIMs founder who she is today.
