The celebrated singer is caught in a family drama that unfolded publicly after a touching moment with her husband, Kendall Taylor, took a turbulent turn online. In an act of romance, Taylor surprised Fantasia with a re-proposal on Valentine’s Day, presenting her with an impressive 11-carat diamond during one of her concerts. However, this heartwarming gesture sparked unexpected controversy.

Her father, Joseph Barrino, did not respond to the event with congratulations. Instead, he took to Facebook and livestreams to express his disapproval, labeling the proposal as “fake.” His criticism didn’t stop there; he also made serious allegations against Taylor, accusing him of financial misdeeds and suggesting that money had gone missing from Fantasia’s finances. As the drama unfolded, Joseph urged his followers to “pray for” Fantasia, escalating the tension between family members.
Confronted with her father’s public outburst, Fantasia took a stand on Instagram, defending her husband and addressing the accusations. Following Fantasia’s defense, Kendall Taylor decided it was time to share his side of the story, seeking to clear his name amidst the swirling allegations.
In a series of statements shared on social media, Taylor asserted his independence and success prior to meeting Fantasia. “When I met my wife, I was owning my own multimillion-dollar company, period,” he stated, as quoted in clips by Baller Alert. “That means her success, her career, didn’t build me, didn’t shape me.”
To further clarify his journey, Taylor elaborated on his educational and professional achievements. He revealed that he had attended prestigious programs such as the Sunoco Leadership Academy, BMW Black Belt Training, and the Tuck School of Business, among others. Through these experiences, he found significant success, despite having faced considerable personal challenges. “I’m grateful for those things because I am a justice-impacted individual,” Taylor explained, highlighting his journey of overcoming adversity and breaking free from limiting mindsets and behaviors.
Taylor went on to explain how he attended the Sunoco Leadership Academy, BMW Black Belt Training, Tuck School of Business, Small Business Accelerator, and the CMETI Business Initiative. He found “a lot of success” through his training. “I’m grateful for those things because I am a justice-impacted individual, and I had to overcome tremendous adversity and circumstances in order to break a lot of criminogenic mindsets and trauma and behavior that were keeping me living at a lower level than what I was capable of,” he continued.
“I hope she doesn’t get upset with this, but I’m going to speak the truth. I asked for the prenup,” Taylor noted. “A prenup wasn’t put on me. I asked for it because I had business partners that I needed to protect, and I needed to make sure her family knew that I had no intentions of coming after anything that she had established before she met me. I wanted to create a runway where we could just experience love with each other and figure out what this unnatural, natural feeling was that we were exploring.”
According to Taylor, Fantasia’s father didn’t “show up” to their wedding. Joseph also allegedly didn’t “speak” to him at the event.

Fantasia Barrino called out her father for the accusations made against her husband, Kendall Taylor. According to Essence, she posted screenshots from Joseph Barrino’s 2024 arrest.
“I wasn’t going to do this, but this has gotten out of hand,” the American Idol winner captioned an Instagram post. “I cant even call you Dad or a Father, you are a DONOR!!!”
“We have covered for you long enough,” she continued. “My mom and me have made you LOOK like you were and [sic] okay man but NOW YOU HAVE COME FOR MY KING!!! Tonight I will go Live and behind me will stand all who know YOU!!!! How can someone steal if I Fantasia Taylor is the CEO and my king Kendall Taylor is the president of ALL OUR COMPANIES.”
After deleting the post, she added another video to her Instagram of the sweet proposal moment onstage. “You took my moment but I’m taking it BACK!!!” she captioned the post.
