Blue Origin’s first all-female flight crew took an 11-minute round-trip expedition to the edge of space on April 14, 2025. The crew included Gayle King, Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, bioastronautics research scientist Amanda Nguyen, and film producer Kerianne Flynn. While critics agree that Bowe and Nguyen deserved to board the flight, others think Perry, King, and Sánchez should’ve stayed home. Now, a source says Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner received invites — but they turned down the opportunity. Here’s why.

Kim Kardashian and Kris Jenner allegedly turned down the Blue Origin flight for different reasons

Blue Origin, a private aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, sent six women to space in April 2025. Katy Perry gained a lot of attention as a passenger on the flight, as she didn’t have any relevant experience for the voyage. However, now that Blue Origin had a successful and exciting trip, it’s likely that more celebrities will want to hop aboard an expedition.

A source told The U.S. Sun that Kim Kardashian and “momager” Kris Jenner were asked to board the all-women voyage in April 2025. The reality stars allegedly declined.

“Kris and Kim were offered to go on the Blue Origin,” the source alleged. “Kris absolutely did not want to go for safety concerns and not wanting to put herself in a risky position being a mom and a grandma. Kim was more open to it but had scheduling conflicts. Maybe in the future, especially seeing how much of a success this flight was.”

Perry has received a lot of flack for embarking on the journey. Many of her fans questioned why she would take a risky voyage when she has a young daughter. “Katy was adamant she had to do it because of her daughter,” the source continued. “She wanted to set an example of what a strong, fearless, multifaceted woman with no limits can look like. And blasting off into space is quite literally the definition of no limits.” 

Kris Jenner said Kim Kardashian is busy studying for her law degree

Kris Jenner might not have wanted to take a trip on the historic Blue Origin voyage. However, she still fully supported the mission and said the women aboard were doing “such a brave thing.” While at the West Texas launch site on April 14, 2025, she explained why Kim Kardashian sat this one out.

“Kim keeps writing us because she was supposed to be here with us and she’s studying for law school, and she had a big test that she had to take,” Jenner said, according to E! News. “Again, something I’m very proud of. But she keeps calling going, ‘I have such FOMO; tell me every minute of it.’ So, it’s very inspirational, and we’re proud of the girls, every one of them.”

Jenner noted that she was at the launch site to show her support. “So, this is a very unique experience, and we’re just so honored to be here to support them and watch this amazing part of history,” she continued.

Kardashian-Jenner fans weighed in on the decision

Some fans of the Kardashian-Jenner family agreed with Kris Jenner’s decision to stay grounded.

“For once, I agree with Kris,” a fan wrote on Reddit. “My obligations to my children and family outweigh any thirst for adventure. Period. … I am a little surprised that Kim would consider something like that, especially when you realize that her children basically have only one functioning parent.”

“And she spoke about this on the show saying it was scary/reckless or something when she was dating Pete and he was set to go,” another fan wrote. “I’ll add that Kim could also have been lying to not ruffle the feathers with the billionaires and just say she was busy instead of, ‘Hell no!’”
