Sydney Sweeney’s role in the upcoming biopic Scandalous has stirred up some discontent with veteran actress Kim Novak.

Novak, famously known for her role in Vertigo, expressed her displeasure about the Euphoria star’s casting in a film that will explore Novak’s 1950s affair with Sammy Davis Jr. Her concerns were shared during an interview with The Times of London published on March 27.

“I would never have approved,” Novak expressed, suggesting that Sweeney, 28, has a noticeable physical presence.

The 93-year-old actress highlighted the deep connection she shared with Davis Jr., who passed away in 1990. Despite the short-lived nature of their relationship, which was subjected to heavy public scrutiny due to its interracial aspect, Novak worries the film might overly emphasize the physical aspects of their romance.

While the 93-year-old noted that she and the late jazz legend—who dated briefly from 1957 to 1958 amid tabloid scrutiny over their interracial relationship—“had so much in common,” she express concern about the biopic focusing primarily on the former couple’s physical connection.

“There’s no way it wouldn’t be a sexual relationship because Sydney Sweeney looks sexy all the time,” she continued. “She was totally wrong to play me.”

Sydney’s casting in the project was first reported in October 2024, with Industry alum David Jonsson attached to play Sammy and Colman Domingo set to make his directorial debut, according to multiple outlets.
