Kody and Robyn Brown made headlines in late 2024 when they purchased an expansive new property after unloading the Flagtsaff Mansion they called home during the height of Sister Wives’ success. The new home is larger and far more expensive than their previous real estate purchase, which had fans of the TLC series talking. Now, Kody and Robyn Brown are addressing their decision to move to a new home within the same city. The couple claims they need a “fresh start” after the drama of Kody Brown’s other marriages falling apart. The statement is confusing, though. The duo didn’t really need a new house for a fresh start. After all, the house is hardly tainted with bad memories; they never let the original wives or Kody Brown’s other kids spend time there.

Kody Brown has always been accused of wanderlust. He moved his family dozens of times before settling in Las Vegas. Even that didn’t last long. He eventually opted to uproot them once again to follow Robyn’s adult son to college. While he’s not wandering as far these days, he apparently still has the itch. In the most recent episode of Sister Wives, Kody finally revealed why he and Robyn Brown opted to put their oversized Flagstaff home on the market last year and purchase an even bigger property.

In the October 5 episode, Kody told Robyn he wanted to move because the home they were in had bad memories attached to it and made him feel lonely. His feelings apparently are linked to his three former wives and the children he shares with them. Robyn agreed to the move, but the reasoning has left Sister Wives viewers confused.

How is it possible that Kody Brown has bad feelings about his exes associated with the home when they were never allowed to set foot inside the door? In the five years Kody and Robyn resided inside the home, other wives and their kids visited just a handful of times. That fact was a talking point across multiple seasons. It seems like Kody was desperate to move again and believed his reasoning, however fraudulent, would be enough to get Robyn on board. Robyn has never seemed against spending money, though. We suspect he didn’t really need a reason to convince her to buy a bigger place.

The former polygamist is trying to be relatable, but he is actually more off-putting.

For more than a decade, Kody Brown has been the villain of Sister Wives. We don’t see that changing, though the father of 18 seems to be trying to flip the script during season 20 of the longstanding TLC series. While Kody is clearly trying to seem relatable, pensive, and remorseful this season, he is still falling short. It is pretty easy to see through the facade, and that’s getting him more hate, not less.

In fact, instead of seeming relatable, Kody is coming across even more off-putting than usual. His chatter about the house has proved, once again, that Kody Brown doesn’t know how to read the room. Discussing his own feelings of loneliness while knowing fans watched him neglect and discard his wives and children for the sole purpose of being with Robyn feels like crazy work. Purchasing a larger home after trying to steal from his ex-wives feels pretty tone deaf, too.

While the season is still young, we can’t imagine Kody Brown figuring out a way to redeem himself to viewers or his extended family by the end of season 20. Still, we could be surprised. Sister Wives airs on TLC at 10 pm on Sundays. The show is also available for streaming on HBO Max. It is unclear if the series will continue past season 20.
