A young Nigerian woman, simply identified as Agunwa, has warmed hearts after she visited a hospital and paid off medical bills for several patients who couldn’t afford to settle theirs.

Among the beneficiaries was a new mother who had been separated from her newborn for over a month after complications during childbirth and unpaid hospital bills.

The emotional reunion between the woman and her baby has since gone viral, drawing widespread admiration and praise online.

Kindness in action

According to eyewitnesses, Agunwa visited the hospital to support patients struggling to clear their medical debts. During her visit, she discovered the heartbreaking case of a young woman who had given birth through caesarean section (CS) but was unable to go home due to an outstanding bill of ₦930,000.

The mother’s newborn had been kept on oxygen for weeks because she could not pay the hospital fees, leaving her unable to hold her own baby since delivery. For over a month, she only saw pictures of her child shared by nurses.

Deeply moved by her story, Agunwa stepped in and paid off the entire amount, clearing the mother’s debt and making it possible for her to finally reunite with her child.

Tears Of joy And gratitude

Moments after the payment was made, hospital staff and other patients witnessed an emotional scene as the mother was handed her baby for the first time.

Witnesses described the moment as “pure joy and healing”, with many breaking into tears as mother and child embraced after weeks of painful separation.

Social media users flooded the comments section with praises for Agunwa, calling her an “angel in human form” and thanking her for restoring faith in humanity through her kind gesture.

Online reactions and calls for reform

One user, Princewilllbeo, wrote: “Moments like this remind us of the incredible impact one person can have. That mother finally holding her baby after weeks apart is priceless.”

Another, dia, commented: “We still do have angels in human form. God bless her richly.” Others, like EmmyInteri, praised her and philanthropist Lord Zeus for doing great work in the East.

Meanwhile, some users urged the government to subsidise the health sector so that families don’t have to go through such trauma, insisting that no mother should be separated from her baby because of money.
