Nollywood actor Lateef Adedimeji has shared his thoughts on denying a rumored romantic link with Bimpe Oyebade-Adedimeji before they got married. He also told a funny story about how he proposed to her.

In an interview with Chude Jideonwo on the With Chude Podcast, Lateef explained that his wife thought he was joking when he proposed to her over the phone.

He mentioned that Mo Bimpe was hesitant at first because of his Islamic faith, and she worried that her father might not approve. He recalled:

“I called her and told her I wanted to ask her something, then I told her I wanted to marry her. She was just joking, like, ‘What is doing this one? Get out! I can’t marry a Muslim; are you okay? My daddy won’t even hear that.’”

The actor arranged to talk to her father about marrying her, and after some discussion, he agreed. He continued:

“Then I told her that we’d go see her dad, and I’d speak to him and calm him down. So we went to her village during one of their masquerade festivals, and towards the end, I asked to see her dad. I promised him that I’d take care of his daughter, and he said he’d pray and get back to me, and that was it.”

Even though the couple repeatedly said they weren’t in a relationship before their wedding, fans had their suspicions. Lateef clarified that he and Mo Bimpe dated for around three months before tying the knot, which was shorter than what fans thought. He concluded:

“The proposal wasn’t planned because we just dated for like two, three months and then we got married.”

Lateef and Bimpe celebrated the traditional part of their celebrity wedding in Ijero-Ekiti, Ekiti State, on Saturday, December 18. This was followed by a Nikhai ceremony on Wednesday, December 22, 2021, in Ikeja, Lagos State.

Several celebrities attended the event, including Toyin Abraham, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Nkechi Blessing, Mercy Aigbe, Adunni Ade, Wumi Toriola, Femi Adebayo, Yetunde Bakare, Odunlade Adekola, and Tunde Kelani.
