Sportscaster Lee Corso has made his final picks on ESPN’s College GameDay.

Corso, 89, stepped out at Columbus’ Ohio Stadium on Saturday, August 30, dressed to the nines in a full tuxedo for his final appearance on the beloved weekend show. His fellow panelists also wore suits, though each added an oversized bobblehead of Corso atop their own for a surprise tribute.

Corso has been calling college football games on the ESPN show for 38 years, choosing the Ohio State Buckeyes as his first- and last-ever headgear picks.

“This is one of the easiest picks I’ve ever made,” Corso said on Saturday. “Texas is No. 1 [and] they have a Manning at quarterback. Poor Ohio State, [but] they got a chance. Give me my first love!”

Us Weekly Athletes of the Year 2023

In the world of sports, 2023 was the year Swifties embraced football, Kim Kardashian put athletes in Skims and Ali Krieger channeled her inner Beyoncé. While Patrick Mahomes earned the NFL MVP award, Corey Seager and the Texas Rangers won the World Series and the Denver Nuggets took home the NBA Championship trophy, Us Weekly […]

Corso subsequently picked up the Buckeyes’ mascot head and slipped it on, with the crowd erupting in cheers while giving him a standing ovation. The school’s marching band also came out onto the field, and the musicians positioned themselves to spell out “Corso.”

Many College GameDay viewers later took to social media to share their own tributes to Corso.

“I don’t care who you’re a fan of,” one social media user wrote via X. “This was an incredible tribute to Lee Corso. Thanks for the memories.”

Another added, “Lee Corso is a college football legend. Thank you for everything Coach.”

Corso’s ESPN colleague Kirk Herbstreit previously spoke to Us Weekly about his exit.

“Sometimes you learn more from how people make you feel than what they say. He’s the epitome of that,” Herbstreit, 55, exclusively told Us last month. “From the very first day I met him in my audition when I was terrified at 25 years old until right now, he makes everybody feel special. His eyes, his words. He cares.”

Herbstreit added, “He could have a broken arm, or in his case he’s been dealing with a lot of health issues, he’s always positive. He’s always upbeat. He’s always a guy who is grateful for what he has. Watching him be that way has made me that way.”

Herbstreit further told Us that he learned “so many life lessons” from working alongside Corso.

“I think the one that’s really stood out to me is how he makes me feel when I’m around him, being positive about life,” he said. “Being upbeat and being thankful and having gratitude.”

In addition to Corso and Herbstreit, College GameDay also stars Rece Davis, Desmond Howard, Pat McAfee and Nick Saban. McAfee, 38, even sweetly gave Corso a hug during his final show.
