The eagerly anticipated conclusion to Netflix’s Stranger Things has reshaped our understanding of the infamous Upside Down, unveiled Will Byers (Noah Schnapp) as a clandestine sorcerer, and reintroduced a divisive figure from the series with significant impact.
In its fifth season, Stranger Things brings back Eleven’s (Millie Bobby Brown) sister, Kali (Linnea Berthelsen), who first appeared in Season 2. Known in the Hawkins Research Laboratory as “Eight,” Kali possesses the extraordinary abilities to read minds and conjure mental illusions. During her initial encounter with Eleven, Kali, along with her group of outcasts, was on a mission to exact revenge on those involved in Brenner’s (Matthew Modine) experiments. Despite the joy of reuniting with her sister, Eleven was disturbed by Kali’s violent pursuits and chose to return to Hawkins to aid her friends.

At the conclusion of Episode 4, titled “Sorcerer,” it is uncovered that Brenner’s successor, Dr. Kay (Linda Hamilton), has captured Kali, keeping her confined in a hidden chamber within her Upside Down laboratory. As the plot unfolds in Season 5 Volume 2, Kali reveals a grim truth to Eleven. Brenner had manipulated their origins by infusing their mothers with Henry Creel’s (Jamie Campbell Bower) blood during pregnancy. Dr. Kay has been attempting to replicate this method by using Kali’s blood on a new group of pregnant women, but without success.
Kali informs Eleven that she was Brenner’s lone triumph, the only one capable of rivaling Henry’s formidable power. Dr. Kay’s pursuit of Eleven is driven by a desire to utilize her blood in experiments aimed at creating a new generation of super-powered youth.
While Hopper (David Harbour), Joyce (Winona Ryder), and the rest of the gang believe their fight is only against Vecna in the Upside Down, Kali argues that it’s much bigger than that. Even if they defeat Vecna and destroy the Upside Down, the government will never stop hunting them. The only way to stop the vicious cycle of experiments is to sacrifice themselves after killing Vecna to ensure no one is ever hurt again.
But is Kali right? Is Kali bad? Who plays Kali on Stranger Things? Here’s everything you need to know about Linnea Berthelsen, the actress behind Kali…
Who Plays Kali Prasad on Stranger Things? All About Linnea Berthelsen: Height, IMDB credits, and More
Linnea Berthelsen is a 32-year-old Danish actress, based in London, who is best-known for playing Kali, aka Eight, in Stranger Things Seasons 2 and 5. According to her IMDB profile, Berthelsen has kept busy over the years appearing in a variety of shorts as well as the FX show, Devs.
Berthelsen recently told EW that she didn’t know if she would ever be coming back to Stranger Things after Season 2 and that she approached Kali’s return like tackling a “whole different” character, hence the slightly different accent this time around.
“I started from scratch with the character, given the circumstances of what she’s going through,” she explains. “It’s a gear shift. It’s a whole different person. What happens to people when they go through something that’s quite traumatic and different, you can change. So I think I allowed myself to say, ‘Season 2, that persona, whatever happened is there, but I’m gonna start all over and do the prep from the beginning see what’s gonna come out naturally.’”
Something else is a little bit different in Season 5, though. Stranger Things Season 2 was shot nearly a decade ago, when Millie Bobby Brown was still a tween. Back then, she and Berthelsen were about the same height, but now the fully grown Brown towers over her older co-star.
So how tall is Linnea Berthelsen? IMDB lists her height as 5 feet and 1/4 inch, or 1.53 meters for my metric fans.

Is Kali Bad on Stranger Things? Kali Name Meaning:
We already know that Hopper doesn’t like Kali, but does she really mean ill towards Eleven? Is Kali evil? Is she pushing Eleven to sacrifice herself for nefarious reasons? After all, she coached El to embrace her dark side to channel her powers all the way back in Season 2.
Perhaps the biggest clue about Kali’s larger role in Stranger Things comes from her name. In Hinduism, Kali is the powerful goddess of time, death, and destruction. In Sanskrit, her name means the “black one.” However, she’s not evil, per se. Rather, she is also considered to be the “Divine Mother.” She’s a fount of deep, transcendental, feminine wisdom.
So, yes, she is tied to the darker aspects of life, namely death. She probably earnestly believes that only through self-destruction can she and Eleven save others because that’s in line with the goddess Kali’s view of death. It’s not good or bad, but an essential reality.
The final episode of Stranger Things will come out on Wednesday, December 31.
