In the fifth season of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, cast members Lisa Rinna and Kim Richards had an explosive argument at a restaurant in Amsterdam. Things between Richards and Rinna got increasingly heated, culminating in Rinna smashing a wine glass and barely restraining herself from hitting her co-star. Rinna later revealed that production played a hand in the blow-up.

During a cast dinner in Amsterdam, Richards told Rinna and Eileen Davidson to stop talking about her past issues with addiction. The confrontation got increasingly heated, and Richards eventually mentioned Rinna’s husband, Harry Hamlin.

“Let’s talk about the husband,” she said, making a face. “Let’s not talk about what you don’t want out.”

Rinna told Richards not to talk about her husband before lunging at her. 

“You better watch what you talk about me, or everybody will know,” Richards said.

Rinna then threw a glass of water at Richards and smashed it on the table, bringing the dinner to an explosive end for some cast members.

Rinna later said that she could tell something was amiss with Richards long before they sat down to dinner.

“We fly to Amsterdam and there was weirdness on the plane,” she recalled on her Let’s Not Talk About the Husband podcast. “I was getting some cold shoulder vibes from Kim Richards. You’re flying all day and you’re all together. So, I could tell that there was something brewing.”

She said that just minutes into the dinner, Richards confronted her. She believed producers put Richards up to it after discovering Hamlin was her “hot button topic.”

“That’s what those producers are so f***ing good with,” she said. “They’re evil geniuses and they can get in there and figure out, ‘OK, this is what you need to do, Kim. You need to go and say this to Rinna and she will f***ing lose it.’ And guess what? That’s what happened.”

In a later episode of Let’s Not Talk About the Husband, Rinna revealed that Richards confirmed producers told her to bring up Hamlin.

“She has since come to me and said, ‘I was produced to do that.’ Whether that’s true or not … that’s how she dealt with it when we made up in a sense,” she said. “If you were a smart producer … and you’ve been listening to me for three months in my interviews, you’d be pretty stupid if you didn’t have somebody come after me about the kids or [Hamlin].”

Richards did not name the dirt she allegedly had on Hamlin. He said he wished he knew what she was talking about.

“You know them,” Rinna responded. “You are gay and you have affairs in Canada all the time … those are two big ones.”

Hamlin said he didn’t let gossip like this bother him.
