Fans of Luther have been waiting for a reunion like this since the crime drama’s television finale aired in July.
Detective Chief Inspector John Luther and his deadly adversary Alice Morgan appeared to reunite on the red carpet, as Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson shared a warm embrace in real life.
The former co-stars met at the 2013 Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards at Claridge’s Hotel in London on Tuesday, where Elba was honoured with the Man of the Year award.

A memorable moment for Luther fans: Idris Elba and Ruth Wilson appeared together publicly for the first time since the series ended in July
Wilson made a dramatic entrance in a vibrant Peter Pilotto gown, showcasing the London label’s signature global-inspired patterns and sculpted shapes influenced by science and the natural world.
The dress’s vivid orange sections complemented her red hair and ensured she stood apart from the evening’s more conventional red-carpet looks.
She kept the rest of her styling understated, choosing minimal jewellery, natural-looking make-up and classic black peep-toe shoes so the statement gown remained the focus.

Luther viewers also had reason to celebrate: after the BBC crime drama concluded in July, it was confirmed that the popular series would be adapted for the big screen.

Big Screen: Luther is set to be made into a prequel movie starring Idris Elba
Writer Neil Cross has revealed that most of the cast will be back for the anticipated film, including leading man Idris Elba and Warren Brown as the detective’s sidekick Justin Ripley.
Viewers saw Ripley shot dead in the TV finale in July but Cross has revealed he was so keen to include the character in the film that he’s penned a prequel script.
Cross has revealed that it didn’t feel right doing a movie without Brown’s character, so it made sense to go back to the beginning for the film.
Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Cross revealed: ‘I’ve written the script and we hope to get the film made next year.
‘Idris is a brilliant leading man and we’ve hoped to turn Luther into a movie for a long time.’
Whilst Luther lovers will no doubt be thrilled by the resurgence of Ripley and other characters including Luther’s wife Zoe (Indira Varma) and colleague Ian Reed (Steve Mackintosh), the prequel leaves no room for the popular character of Alice Morgan (Ruth Wilson) to make an appearance.
However, Ruth could reprise her role as murderous Alice though, with rumours of a spin off series.
