In a surprising twist, Ines Basic recently unveiled a chance encounter she had with her former co-star Sam Ball, years after their infamous cheating scandal unfolded on the reality TV show, “Married At First Sight.”
During an interview with the Daily Mail, the 35-year-old reality TV personality recounted the awkward moment she crossed paths with Sam at a shopping mall, a place she least expected to see him.
“I saw him actually at the shopping centre, maybe late last year,” Ines shared, reflecting on the unexpected meeting.
She was browsing through makeup at Mecca when some staff members recognized her and pointed out, “Hey, there’s that guy you were with.” Initially puzzled, Ines asked, “Which one?” only to be reminded, “The one from TV.”
Upon realizing it was indeed Sam, Ines was taken aback, as it had been a lengthy six years since she last saw him. This unexpected sighting brought back memories of their dramatic past, which once gripped television audiences.
‘I was like, “This is just unbelievable,” because I hadn’t seen him since 2019 or something, since we did a Woman’s Day shoot,’ she said.

She added that Sam was with another woman, who she assumed was his girlfriend, and when they finally locked eyes, the situation quickly became awkward.
‘We’ve seen each other and we were both kind of like a little bit like didn’t know how to behave,’ she said.
Ines then made a beeline out of the store; however, that would not be the end of the awkward encounter.
‘I went to go leave the shopping centre – on my way to my car, I go to Cotton On, and I’m trying on some sunglasses,’ she explained.
‘I look in the mirror, he’s behind me.’
While shocked at Sam’s sudden reappearance, Ines said that there were positives that came out of the exchange.Â
‘I turn around and I almost like brush shoulders with him on my way out of the store and his girlfriend’s right there as well and I’m like, “Oh my god, this is just the worst,”‘ she said.Â
‘He kind of smiles at me and I smile at him back. That was my way of kind of saying like I don’t care, you know, about all the drama and everything that’s happened.’

Elsewhere in the interview, Ines revealed she was mercilessly trolled by viewers, to the extent that Channel Nine had to hire private security to escort her to events after filming. Â
‘I was getting trolled so bad, and I was also getting really racist comments because I came here as a refugee,’ she said.Â
‘I got trolled so hard… I actually had a personal security guard.’
She added that she felt uncomfortable having to resort to the extra safety precautions.
‘I was like, “Oh my God, I have to have a security guard.” It was like really embarrassing,’ she said.
While Ines said that the scandal did not reflect who she is as a person, she admitted that she looks back on it with awkwardness.
‘I’m like, “Oh my God, this is like insane,” and coming from a more grounded, mature place that I’m in now, I look at it and I think, “This is so like immature and insane to watch.”‘
‘He kind of smiles at me and I smile at him back. That was my way of kind of saying like I don’t care, you know, about all the drama and everything that’s happened,’ she said.

Ines and Sam’s secret romance became the biggest cheating scandal in Married At First Sight history.
Despite initially being paired with Bronson Norrish and Elizabeth Sobinoff respectively, Ines and Sam quickly forged a connection.
Their surreptitious flirtation continued as the cameras rolled, including a secret hotel sleepover while supposedly still committed to their on-screen partners.
After forging a plan to leave the experiment and build a life together away from the cameras, Ines and Sam’s romance was exposed during the series’ third commitment ceremony.
Sam infamously ghosted Ines and the pair never spoke again.
