In a thrilling six-goal encounter, Bryan Mbeumo emerged as the hero for Manchester United, scoring twice to help his team secure a narrow victory over Brighton. This win marks United’s third consecutive triumph in the Premier League, a feat they have not achieved since February 2024. As a result, the Red Devils now find themselves sitting comfortably in fourth place on the league table.
The match began with Matheus Cunha breaking his lengthy 16-match goal drought, putting United ahead in the early minutes. Casemiro soon followed up with a goal of his own, his strike finding the net with the help of a deflection. By the hour mark, Mbeumo had calmly slotted home another, extending United’s lead to 3-0 and seemingly putting them in a commanding position.
However, Brighton was not ready to concede defeat without a fight. Former United player Danny Welbeck sparked a potential comeback with a stunning free-kick, narrowing the deficit. The tension continued to rise as Charalampos Kostoulas scored a header in stoppage time, bringing Brighton within striking distance.
Despite Brighton’s valiant efforts, Manchester United held on, showcasing their attacking prowess and resilience. The victory not only boosts their confidence but also solidifies their status as serious contenders in this season’s Premier League race.
Late scare, late relief
Danny Welbeck ignited Brighton’s fightback with a superb free-kick against his former club, and Charalampos Kostoulas’ stoppage-time header set up a nervous finish.
But Mbeumo stepped up again, smashing home his second goal to settle the contest and seal another vital win for Ruben Amorim side.
