Mariah Carey and Eminem have long been entangled in a public feud. The discord began when Eminem asserted that the two had a romantic relationship, an allegation Carey has always refuted. Over time, this conflict has inspired both artists to take lyrical jabs at each other and make pointed remarks during interviews. Recently, when Carey was prompted to momentarily set aside their differences and highlight three positive traits about Eminem, her response was both memorable and telling.
The origins of this infamous rivalry trace back to 2001. At that time, Carey approached Eminem to collaborate on her album Charmbracelet. Eminem later suggested that their working relationship evolved into something more intimate, a claim Carey has consistently denied, insisting that their interactions were purely professional. In a conversation on Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen asked Carey to set the feud aside and list three positive things about Eminem.
“They come in a package that you can carry wherever you go,” she said. “Everybody loves them around the world. And they’re tasty. Peanut, and you can have the regular kind.”
The audience exploded into laughter as she spoke. Even years later, people have celebrated the way she used the question to talk about the candy instead of the rapper.
“In any era Mariah WILL be witty and the queen of shade,” wrote one Reddit user. “She said, ‘I don’t know him.’”
