Marisa Abela transformed into Amy Winehouse once again as she filmed scenes for Sam Taylor Johnson’s Back To Black biopic in Camden Lock on Monday.

The actress, 26, embodied the late musician, who died from alcohol poisoning aged 27 in 2011, as she filmed scenes showing the star out in London with two friends.

Marisa put on a leggy display in a white denim mini skirt and a blue and yellow graphic T-shirt, which she styled with a faux leather jacket.

She gave herself a few extra inches in a pair of knee-high heeled boots as she shot scenes as Amy, showing her grabbing a takeaway from a pie shop with two pals.

Marisa sported Amy’s iconic silver lip piercing and gold hoop earrings, while she also opted for a thick slick of eyeliner in keeping with the singer’s well-recognised look.

Marisa wore her dark locks loosely across shoulders, rather than sporting Amy’s signature beehive, potentially hinting she was filming moments from earlier in Amy’s career.

Marisa’s fashion ensemble resembled looks worn by the rehab hitmaker in the early 2000s, perhaps hinting that the scenes were from this era.

Amy moved to Camden back in 2003 when she was 20 years old, just as her first album Frank was release, and she lived in various homes in the area until her death.

During filming, Marisa was seen embodying Amy as she walked through Camden with two friends, laughing and joking with them.

The group were seen looking up in surprise at something before descending into fits of laughter as they strolled through the famous market area.

They were then seen popping into a pie shop and grabbing takeaway dishes as they continued filming, before the trio all walked out together.

Director Sam, 56, was also seen on set and cut a casual figure in a grey tracksuit and a blue puffer jacket, while she kept warm by drinking a hot beverage.

The filming comes after Amy’s father Mitch defended the controversial casting choice for the new biopic – after many claimed Marisa and Amy don’t look enough alike.

Mitch, 72, disagrees with the backlash as he shared that Marisa is a ‘great choice’, admitting it doesn’t matter if they ‘don’t look exactly alike’.

Chatting with TMZ on the new release about his daughter, Mitch said: ‘Marisa is Marisa and Amy is Amy… so it’s no big deal if they aren’t mirror images. Marisa is a great choice for the role.’

He continued that Eddie Marsan, who is playing Mitch, doesn’t look exactly like him either, noting: ‘There’s too much emphasis on looks.

‘Because there’s plenty of Hollywood examples of actors not looking like their real-life character.’

He later joked to The Mail on Sunday that he wanted George Clooney to play him, saying: ‘I told my friend that Eddie was playing me and he said – excuse my French – ‘Eddie f****** Marsan! He’s not very good-looking.’ I said, ‘I know – I wanted George Clooney!”

As an administrator of his daughter’s estate, Mitch has given his backing to the new movie Back To Black, with some proceeds going to the charity set up in her name.

But jokes about casting aside, the former cabbie has insisted that at least some of his flaws are shown on screen – admitting to clashing with director Sam over his portrayal.

‘I sent the first script back,’ he told The Mail on Sunday. ‘It made me look like a saint – like I should be knighted. It was too much.’

Despite it being almost 12 years since Amy was found unresponsive at her townhouse in Camden, North London, in July 2011, her grief-stricken friends still believe it is early for such a film to be made.

Sources on the set of Back To Black – named after Amy’s hit 2006 album – say that filming is only due to last 10 weeks.

One insider said: ‘It all feels very fast, almost a bit smash and grab.’

Many have also doubted the film being made as a whole, accusing the project of ‘exploiting the singer’s legacy’ and ‘capitalising off her trauma’, with some calling for people to ‘just let her rest’.
