The more you grow — or maybe shrink?

Before Mark Consuelos dove into an article asking “why are we shrinking,” he got some laughs from the Live with Kelly and Mark audience on Friday’s episode, telling Kelly Ripa, “You’ve noticed that, right?”

However, Consuelos clarified that he was referring to Ripa attending an All My Children luncheon, where some of the cast and crew who had not seen Ripa “in a decade or so” asked her if she “grew.”

Ripa recalled, “They asked me if I was wearing platform heels. And I was like, I’m not.”

Consuelos teased, “You guys have just shrunk. It’s happening.”

He continued reading the article, which said that “on average, men lose around an inch between ages 30 and 70.”

“I can’t afford to lose that,” he quipped. “And women [lose] up to two inches. By the time we reach 80, both men and women will likely shrink another inch.”

After Consuelos attributed this shrinking to “the discs that are sandwiched between our spine” becoming thinner, he read that practicing healthy habits like “exercise” and “eating healthy” will help preserve “elasticity and cushioning of your discs.”

Ripa chimed in, “I feel like I’m getting taller.”

After delivering his “public service announcement,” Consuelos noted that “every time” he does a “back squat,” he “usually hang[s] for like 30 or 40 seconds” to stretch himself out.

“I’m not sure if it [works]. It probably doesn’t work,” he admitted.

Ripa proposed, “We should get you one of those upside down hanging things. Yeah, where you put your feet in, and you just flip upside down.”

Live EP Michael Gelman told the two co-hosts that he owns one, teasing that he uses it “all the time” and is “two inches taller.”

As for Ripa, she admitted that her elders shrinking has made her feel taller.

“I said, like, when I first met your parents, and my parents were always taller than me, and now I’m taller than three of our parents,” she shared. “Who shall remain nameless. There’s one that’s still slightly taller than me.”

Consuelos replied, “There’s still time.”

Nonetheless, Ripa joked that “it’s fun” being taller than people who she used to be shorter than, noting that she was always “the little one.”

“Not so big now, are you?” she teased.
