Taylor Swift’s upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, has an official color: Portofino Orange. The singer said she deliberately picked the shade to represent her latest era. Already, searches for it have increased exponentially. A branding and marketing expert said that we should expect to see more of it this fall. He believes Swift’s “Showgirl Orange” will be a dominant cultural force.
Taylor Swift chose orange as the color of her new era
When Swift appeared on the New Heights podcast to discuss The Life of a Showgirl, she told host Jason Kelce why she chose orange as the album’s color.
“I’ve just always liked it, Jason,” she said. “It feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt. And this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
The album’s cover is green with glittering orange lettering.
Taylor Swift’s ‘Showgirl Orange’ will be trendy in the second half of 2025
Last summer, “Brat Green” was the dominant color following the release of Charli XCX’s Brat. Branding and marketing expert Liam Smith at Aura Print believes the color of fall 2025 will be “Showgirl Orange.”
“Brands used to pick a color and it would be years before we associated that color with the brand — think Chanel’s little black dress,” he said. “Nowadays, it seems audiences are increasingly paying attention to color, latching onto it in a bid to define an era, a movement, or a moment in time … Now, it’s ‘Showgirl Orange’ who stands ready to dominate the latter half of the year, bringing theatrical energy and high impact visibility to the season’s cultural landscape.”
He noted that ever since Swift’s album release announcement, the color has popped up in more and more places. The cultural dominance of the hue will only increase Swift’s pervasiveness.
“Historically, Swift’s genius has always been in making color an era’s emotional signature, so fans don’t just hear an album, they see it, and it’s so accessible, fans can take part themselves by incorporating the color into their fashion, decoration, social media,” he said. “This consistent defining visual coding creates instant recall and strengthens fan identity. However, ‘Showgirl Orange’ is predicted to bleed into mainstream trends, bigger than her color palettes ever have before — with it already being spotted on the autumn/winter ‘25 runways, as well as the Pantone color, named ‘2026.’”
Smith predicts fans will incorporate “Showgirl Orange” into makeup and fashion routines, particularly at Swift’s shows.
She said she included an Easter egg in the color at the end of her Eras Tour
Swift is fond of dropping Easter eggs for her fans to uncover, and she teased the color of her new album during the Eras Tour.
“So I would leave the stage every night going down the elevator lift. That’s how every single Eras Show ended, except for one, except for the last one, where I exited through a door, an orange door to be specific,” she explained. “And that actually was an Easter egg. Basically, the reason why I chose to exit that way is because I kind of wanted to give a little subliminal hint to the fans that I may be leaving the Eras Tour era, but I was also entering a new era.”
Fans have patted themselves on the back for picking up on the fact that the orange door would be significant.
